Overview

"Prayer is a journey—a journey into God and a journey to the deepest, hidden levels of ourselves. To embark on a life of prayer is to begin a journey of discovery. As we grow and change, so our praying will grow and deepen too.”

People of all backgrounds pray. Many are longing to make a spiritual connection with something or someone bigger than themselves. In this book Sue Mayfield introduces readers to the mufti-faceted subject of prayer.

Exploring Prayer is divided into two parts: the first half looks at the many aspects of prayer, such as celebration, encounter, penitence, and listening; the second half explores different ways of praying, such as praying with the imagination, praying with music, praying with our senses, and praying through creativity. Each chapter also has suggested exercises to help readers to discover what works for them. Using contemporary quotes and full-color illustrations, this practical and accessible book will enable readers to explore the adventure of prayer for themselves.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
I really loved this great little book. It is not heavy and does not take long to read through. It is exactly as the title suggests, an exploration of prayer, looking at various aspects of prayer, broken into two main parts—‘What is Prayer?’ and ‘How to Pray.’ The twenty short chapters, with lovely photographic illustrations throughout, make this a simple, enjoyable read. I most enjoyed the way each chapter ended with two ‘Prayer Exercises,’ giving the reader forty different ideas on ways to pray. There are some lovely ideas to use in personal prayer and group settings and some of the creative exercises would work well in prayer workshops and home groups. This is a good tool for anyone open to new ideas on ways to pray, for people who find praying a little difficult sometimes, and also for new Christians. I shall be keeping this book to hand to use; it’s not just a book to read and put back on the shelf.”
Christian Marketplace

"Beautiful photographs throughout the book illustrate words, phrases, and ideas. Exploring Prayer is a delightful, helpful book for use by an individual or by church books."
