Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
According to Fredericks "The five major oceans of the world contain more life than any other ecosystem of the world." Yet it is the least understood and explored. New discoveries are occurring daily. The day this review was written, The Washington Post carried a multi-page story about the coelacanth, a fish once considered extinct until it was rediscovered during this century. There is plenty of good information in the ten chapters of this book; they introduce oceans, seashores, winds, waves, and aquariums and then issue a call to protect the words oceans and their marine life. What sets this publication apart are the hands-on activities that are described with enough detail to minimize frustration, but open enough to make kids think about what the experiment is teaching or demonstrating. A useful book for a classroom, aquarium, science center or library.
