The author created a wonderful premise with a storyline to support it. The only criticism I have is that I'd love to have had more to read about life in France . This is a beautiful tale of rebirth, being freed by the truth and the unburdening of the soul in search of wholeness. The ominous Mitch character is depicted early on and establishes the unhealthy atmosphere that the reticent Angie feels she must endure. This insight into her plight provides the reader with understanding and forgiveness when Ross comes on the scene and turns her world upside down. What transpires is that Angie grows and learns much about herself. There are cringe-worthy moments, genuinely troubling circumstances, not to mention, life-altering violence that will keep the reader riveted. The scene of the explosion was nothing less than horrific, as the reader feels the terror and dismay. The story takes place in various, exciting locales, as the mystery unravels. I think that what appeals to so many people is that, at one time or another, in their lives, they may have dreamed of a drastic change in their lives. A change for good; we become the people we really want to be, in a place we really want to live. It is like being reborn. The paradigm shift will inspire you to think really hard about the way you see yourself in the world. This book delivers the message loud and clear. The plot twisted itself around my heart. Some of the words are permanently etched in my mind. Powerful.Enthralling.HAPPY ENDING! Add this to your treasure trove!

I learned of this book from my local newspaper and on a whim decided to attend a book signing. So glad I did! This author is truly one of a kind - her upbeat personality and clear passion for life certainly shines through in this book. Like most people, I have had my fair share of relationship struggles, which allowed me to relate to the main character. Angie's determination for a better life should be an inspiration to all of us. The suspenseful and descriptive story line will keep you enthralled to the very end. I recently attended a second book signing to purchase several more books as personalized Christmas gifts for my girlfriends. I know they will love this book as much as I did!

A Wonderful Escape that Warms the Heart

I hate to see this book listed in the romance genre. There is so much more to this book and storyline than romance! It is a joy to read! These characters stay with you and become part of you and you will be better for it. You will come away with a deeper understanding of the human condition. The quality writing was a treat after so many books I have read lately! I was captivated by the many layers of this book. If it were not for the fact that I must work for a living and sleep and eat to work, I would have read this in one sitting. The author's words breathe life into her characters. This book raises some important and disturbing questions about human cruelty and its consequences. I am in awe... spectacular settings, magnificently crafted, riveting emotion and totally engrossing. There are some authors who just seem to have a natural-born talent for writing. They take you into their world and before you know it, you are forming relationships with the rich, exciting characters. Pirrung has surely accomplished this in this clever, absorbing story. I love the conversations of these intelligent, determined characters, filled with witty word-play during their confrontations. I love it when I read a book that every chapter leaves me hanging and wanting to read, "just a little more". I knew from reading the first chapter, from the intricacy of language and the full bodied sentences that I was going to be addicted. A well-written book is a treasure and the excitement of a well-constructed, engaging "magic tale" is priceless. Parts of this book will raise the little hairs on the back of your neck and other parts will absolutely melt your heart! I recommend highly! Not one to be missed!!

    Beautifully written book!!!

Your first two books were given to me as a gift. When I found out that Explosion in Paris came out, I couldn't wait to read it and ordered it from Barnes and Noble right away. I was hardly able to put it down. Linda is an incredibly engaging writer. As you're reading, you can truly visualize the characters, the scenery, and the story line because of the level of detail she includes. You feel like you know the people in the stories. This novel in particular takes so many twists and turns, you never know what to expect next. I can't wait for another book!!

    Paris is for lovers!

EXPLOSION IN PARIS: This book is delicious. A great book to curl up with on a snowy day and relax. I definitely recommend buying Explosion in Paris as well as her two earlier books. The author has produced three well-written stories, and I can't wait for her next one. Unfortunately, I missed her last book signing but hope to make it to her next one. I've shared the book with three of my neighbors who enjoyed her first two books and they also loved this one. Like me, they can't wait for the next one to reach the store shelves. I wholly recommend all three books written by Ms. Pirrung. I'm in a monthly book club and we are planning to have the author come speak at one of our meetings about how she became an author and her plans for her next book. Read the book. I know you'll be delighted.

    Totally Absorbing

I bought this book, not only because it sounded exciting but also out of curiosity after reading all the Rave reviews and the one contrasting bad one; now I see another negative review. If you don't feel a part of these characters, I would have to wonder if there is a heart beating in your chest! This lovely novel is one of those rare finds that works its way under your skin and grabs hold of you with both hands until you are so absorbed that you cannot move while the brilliantly manipulated words read like poetry and work their magic. It was a breath of fresh air and a pleasure to read. An entrancing air of suspense pervades this tale and will keep you breathless in its revelation of evil and in its resolve to seek out a satisfying happy ending. I became emotionally attached to the well-developed characters that all have an essential role and purpose in the plot development. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and I could not get the characters out of my head, but happily so. From the very start, I cared what happened to the characters. If you long for a story that will transport you to another world, by all means, escape into the magic atmosphere of this lovely novel. This is one of the exceptional reads I have ravenously devoured with pleasure and delighted in having the characters and storyline stay with me long after having completed it. I consider that the most revealing element of a truly remarkable read! I always read the reviews before I make a purchase. It has become obvious to me after all my years of experience that most negative reviews on an otherwise extremely popular or well-received book are written out of jealousy and vindictiveness. I have no desire to even bother writing a review if I truly did not care for a book. That said, I agree with all of the rave reviews and I could not have said it better. EXPLOSION IN PARIS will inspire, entertain and bring tears to the eyes of the reader. This is an awe-inspiring love story and well worth your purchase! You need not hesitate!

    Epic Love With A Twist

The novel Explosion In Paris is an exploration into the complexities of the human psyche. It captivates the reader and makes one ponder their own fate. Life is a journey. In the book we follow the life of Angelena and her struggle to survive. It is within this struggle that we find not only the darker side of life but the strength of the human spirit. We also witness the epic love of two people who were born to love each other forever. This novel marries romance and suspense and adds a new twist to the mix. It is one of those book club books you never want to put down.

Some books make you cry because of the beauty of the story. This is one of those! This is a tantalizing treat for the senses with the endearing, courageous characters and magical, hypnotizing and charming atmosphere of the setting. This is an adult, sophisticated Fairy Tale..Actually, the uniquely, cleverly written story line does not offend nor shock the reader with obscene language or indecent liaisons, so this book would be appropriate for a young reader as well. This story confirmed my concept of what real, true unconditional love really is. Too many times I have wanted to skim over the first part of books to get to the meatier portions of the story. I was not inclined to do that this time. I was lured in with the compelling characters and their relentless determination against all odds, (Angie and Ross), mystified by the hook of curiosity at how an unscrupulous, pugnacious, and domineering man, (Mitch), could so easily destroy the people he touched, and satisfied with the all conclusive Fairy Tale ending. I read the last page with tears and goose bumps!!!!! I WANT TO MOVE TO FRANCE!!! I loved this book and highly recommend it to all who are inspired by love and living with passion.

Craftily written, great sense of imagery and totally engaging...

I must say, if I'd read the plot-teaser on the back of the hardcover first, I probably would not have bought the book. There was so much more to this book than that implied. It will begin slowly, setting up the characters, but with each turn of the page you will be drawn into a fascinating, well written story of a journey of self-discovery, tortured souls, and the kind of real romance that you can only find in Cary Grant movies. This is a reader's paradise, pure reading pleasure. The delicious writing: The deftly manipulated words will pierce your skin and enter your blood stream and will hold you captive long after you have finished the book. You will marvel at some of the insights the author conveys throughout and in the Afterward when the story ends. This is a meaningful, moving, heartwarming story, replete with the grief suffered from life's trying disappointments and unfortunate fate, love, and personal closure. I love that the author depicts the protagonist as "happily alone" and comfortable with herself. France, where a lot of the transformation takes place, is almost a character in itself. When everything was tied up in the end of the book, I still didn't want to leave this world behind. DREAM ON!  I have a passion for the extraordinary texture of the written word and the wondrous paths they weave to create the exciting world that I can escape to.  I was entranced; I felt; I saw; I heard; I was completely immersed in the story. Books are a dime a dozen but "keepers" are rare. EXPLOSION IN PARIS is a "keeper"!

This book was such an enjoyable read. The Characters were interesting. The plot had some exciting twists. I felt the author did a great job with the little detailed that enhanced the twist in the story line. I felt I knew what it was like to live in France. There were several twists that you could not predict the outcome and made the book more interesting. I was even impressed with the Book cover. This is a book you will remember.

I cried and cried and cried! What an emotional experience!

After reading the other reviews, I can truly say, "Ditto"! Angela Briann Scott embarks on an incredible journey that defines her life and proves that love DOES endure the test of time. The ever-present element of conflict and danger only serves as a means of the deepening attachment of the main characters. Angie and Ross joyfully commit their hearts to each other. This book doesn't have the kind of suspense this author has going on in her other books, yet I found myself eagerly reading each page to find out what was going to happen next. While a love story at its core, the story has layers and layers that thicken the plot and wonderful inspirational elements that keep your spirit high and almost joyous. Compelling, interesting read? ABSOLUTELY! Lush, quality writing? OH! YEAH! Breathtaking love story? YOU BET! Fall in love with the characters? INDUBITABLY! I was so enamored with this delightful story of the timeless and enduring quality of love and friendship. It completely took over my life and it has not left me yet! I fear that the next books I read may leave me feeling unfulfilled, unsatisfied and empty. I came away treasuring life's joys. The book triggers the full gamut of emotions without seeming manipulative or contrived. The afterward the author wrote after the last page of the story was the summation, the crux and ultimate moral to the story. What a gem! A great escape! I highly and enthusiastically recommend this book!

Horrific but heartwarming, fascinating and totally absorbing!

A treat for mystery lovers! Much more than a romance! To say EXPLOSION IN PARIS is captivating is an understatement. This is about a sad marriage and the grizzly details of a sociopath murderer. But woven into the tapestry are thought-provoking insights, vivid, snappy dialogue and endearing, lovable characters who bring many heart-warming, unforgettable moments you will cherish. The characters are real and human and full of resounding spirit. This is an intriguing, fast-paced, well thought out plot and a keen perception of life. It is horrific but heartwarming, fascinating and totally absorbing! The story flows seamlessly as the author unveils the mask of evil to provide an edgy backdrop to a beautiful love story and the true essence of life. The author weaves a compelling storyline that keeps you wanting more.

    I want a sequel!

If you are a fan of suspense and romantic and sexual tension, you will love this. Angela felt powerless to change her fate until she got to know the maddeningly handsome Ross Stafford, who was an ironic contrast to her cruel, selfish, deceitful, and arrogant husband, Mitch. Her husband's lack of heart was replaced with her new friend's heart that seemed to stretch into infinity. I felt whisked away with the enthralling journey of life and beautiful, magical land in the background. The romantic tension from the blossoming friendship to the forbidden love brought a few lingering tears along the way and the lead into life threatening, dark and dangerous places kept my heart pounding against my chest. The reckoning came when Mitch was forced to face his demons. The author's cleverly chosen words created the true essence of intimacy and passion, through feelings and emotions in place of the acrobatic maneures of detailed body parts. The intelligent, witty dialogue throughout was fascinating. The cover was beautiful and after reading the book it made perfect sense. The book left me wanting more, more, more of Jacyline and Ross! I hope that there is a sequel in the works!!!!!

    An unforgettable poignant love story...

I think this is the most beautiful love story since AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER and SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE! The characters charmed me. The book moved me and challenged me to think about a number of deeper issues in life. Life is a present, a gift to be savored, not wasted but to be lived the way we see fit. The circumstances keep you guessing and the romance keeps you hooked while the combination keeps you holding your breath throughout with anticipation. I loved, loved, loved this book! It was an incredibly touching love story with a plot like nothing I've read before. I'm sad to see it end! I miss my new friends!

Should be on your MUST HAVE list!

This delicious novel will interrupt your sleep and keep you distracted in your every day duties with its attention grabbing plot! Lesson learned: Never go on a boat alone with someone you don't trust!! The headlong fight for survival storyline made it almost impossible to let the love relationship breathe, but it satisfied that I WANT YOU BUT CAN'T HAVE YOU tension that will keep you arroused. Your attention is grabbed immediately with Angie's state of emotional limbo and is continued with the emotional tension with the blossoming friendship with Ross. The well-written dialogue holds your attention and helps you feel the pain and anguish. The taut plot and the beautifully painted scenery along the way kept me mesmerized. It had all the right elements, romance, action ,suspense, mystery that keeps you drawn in to the perfectly blended, well-plotted, fast-paced novel and will invade your heart. The loose ends were tied up perfectly BUT...I agree with the last reviewer, I want a sequel! That story isn't over yet, or at least, I don't want it to be over! I want more! WILL NOT DISAPPOINT!!!!

Compelling novel that explores the intricacies of the heart

Angie led a life of quiet desperation until she met Ross. We all yearn for closeness. Mitch's lack of understanding of the fundamental nature of true love kept Angie in a constant state of disbelief and quandary. Sometimes complex, sometimes simple; the author has a way of getting into people's heads and hearts. I was chuckling one minute and before I knew it tears were gathering in my eyes. The author captured their essences, intriguing, great characterization! Immerse yourself in the compelling dialogue and the probing of human nature, love, joy, disappointment, perseverence. Winning formula..gorgeous, handsome, conflict, drama, major crisis, rescue from evil, love, aching hearts....TEDIOUS IT WAS NOT!! WELL WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY!

    Better than five stars!

I gobble books up, so it is quite a statement that I am about to make. This novel is possibly the best I've read in a couple of years! Don't hesitate to buy it and read it as soon as you receive it! L. Pirrung is an inspiring author who writes about characters that people can relate to, laugh about, or hate. I only expect more exceptional writing from this author!

Her scene-stealing course of sharp and amusing dialogue is stimulating on a subject matter that is usually written without humor or wit. Some of the characters are believably flawed and all are incredibly realistic, which will spark the reader's interest that much more.

When you have a story that weaves humor, lows, fear, death, love, desire, and forgiveness, you get a book about life. This is a beautiful love story ripe with human frailty, failure, success, hope, and faith, refreshing contemporary fiction with a strong moral backbone.

Angela must choose between confronting her past and getting over her fears or continuing on in the empty life that she's been living. As the story progresses, she finds answers to questions she never thought to ask, cures to fears she's harbored for so long, and a very handsome, wonderful man who gives her courage. God has a plan for Angie, one that encompasses not only her nightmares but also her hopes and dreams that have long remained hidden behind a wall of fear.

This is one I'll be keeping on my book shelf and reading over and over again. The ending was so perfect I just closed the book and held it against my chest and sighed. There are some books you might remember for a week, a month, or even a year, but this is a book you will remember for a lifetime.

All the bases are covered in this one; suspense, romance, humor, love, and words to live by! And the mix of characters is perfect; the hero, oh my! What woman wouldn't want a man like Ross?

This is better than five stars!

    I Also Recommend:

Reading this book was like opening a window into my heart and soul. It was an alluring, multi-dimensional story, a witty, double-edged tale of intrigue, romance and French culture.

What could have been a mournful, hopelessly bleak story, (the way it started), but instead perseverance, and sheer will turned adversity into an uplifting tale of triumph of the human spirit.

The author unveils the mask of evil in the grizzly details of a murderer who murders to get control. This provides a suspenseful backdrop to a beautiful love story and the ideal essence of life.
Angie remained in a state of emotional limbo of quiet desperation until she met Ross, who was everything Mitch wasn't. The emotional tension with the blossoming friendship with Ross and then the possibility of forbidden love kept me on an emotional high then my heart pounded louder and harder as the storyline switched gears leading to a threatening, dark, dangerous place, hence "EXPLOSION" in EXPLOSION IN PARIS. Never go on a boat alone with someone you don't trust!!

Angie's soaring spirit rose above the atrocities she'd endured to embrace life and struggle to find a life of her own outside of the emotional prison that Mitch was determined to keep her in. I was totally immersed in the life she'd carved out for herself, even envied her!

I was intrigued by so many of Angie's unexpected maneuvers to seek justice for Mitch's murderous tasks. There were tons of surprises that kept me entertained and attached to the book.

The light-hearted humor throughout in conversations along with witty, playful banter added such depth to the characters. The dialog was completely entertaining and kept me chuckling, if not laughing out loud.

There were many memorable, profound quotes I enjoyed. "Life is CHOOSING to love." "We need to forgive ourselves and everyone else for NOT being perfect." "We are all looking for the Fairy Tale. When it doesn't come, we try to create it." I love the tidbits of philosophy throughout.

The background story is cleverly woven into the storyline without slowing down the pace of the plot and the dramatic events take the story in a whole new direction and kept me hooked and in a trance. The reckoning came when Angie saw to it that Mitch was forced to face his demons.

In a world of endless, been there, done that romance, far out, unimaginable science fiction and unbelievable vampires, witches and werewolves, this amazing voice of real life, inspiration, believability and depth presents a deliciously satisfying, unforgettable, intriguing, riveting story that is worth reading and remembering!

This one could change the way you see yourself and the world.

EXPLOSION IN PARIS, by Linda Pirrung Reviewed by Hana Gabrielle Packard I can understand all of these wonderful reviews singing this book's praises. This is a great book with an important message that separates the bone from its marrow. A good friend of mine handed me this book and insisted, "Read this! It will change your life!" So I did and now I've ordered two more copies, one for me to keep and one to gift. If I had to sum up this book with only one word it would have to be "empowering". Even under the direst of circumstances these characters are trying to make a difference. From the bustling Metropolis and picturesque, romantic City of Paris to the quaint rolling hills of peaceful St. Remy de Provence, I so desperately wanted to be the main protagonist, shattered past and all! I can't find the right words to express how I feel. It is almost a feeling of being sprinkled with fairy dust, a touch of magic. This isn't exactly a mystery being that the killer is exposed early on but more of a suspense because you want so badly for him to suffer and get his just desserts! It's hard to find something that is not already covered in all of these reviews and that won't give too much away to spoil the reading for you. I feel that I have to say something because I so enjoyed this lovely, memorable book. I would give10 stars, if they were available, for the stunning setting, the memorable and three-dimensional characters, the exciting plot, the empowering theme, the eloquent, tasteful, empathetic writing and the inspiration that makes the world a better place. This excellent, intoxicating book has so many virtues that it is hard to limit the words to a short review. THIS BOOK HAS A BEAUTIFUL SOUL. This is a powerful drama, laced with humor, wisdom and tenacity, featuring smart, strong, dignified, and bold characters redefining their lives in the face of daunting adversity. It is a searing, moving novel of liberation with a colorful, exotic background. The author captured the importance of "home", be it people, or be it place, home is always where you are cared about and feel a sense of "comfort". I was fascinated by the French culture that was so vividly detailed and the whole adventure of fixing up the chateau. I could almost smell the lavender fields of St. Remy and taste the macaroons in Paris. There is a message, among so many sprinkled hither and yon that even if you are up to your eyeballs in turmoil and strife, live through it like a victor, not a victim. Another good message I felt was that if you are struggling with anger at God for your pitiful existence, read this book! Then, do something about it! If only the world could find a way to live in harmony, free of judgment, free of scrutiny and take the blinders off to see people at "heart-value". There are so many nuggets of wisdom to chew on that will impact your life in this beautiful story of healing and courage. This book was the highlight of my summer reading. I feel that my life is enriched by having read this exceptional gem of a book and feel it necessitates a thank you note to the author!

Within the first few short chapters I was hooked. Instead of going to bed at a respectable hour, I found myself in the middle of California, witnessing Angela Briann Scott's less than perfect marriage, then enters Ross Stafford - Well, who could put the book down after that?!

This is an intricately woven story of darkness and light. A gripping suspense novel, EXPLOSION IN PARIS, is about courageous love, and the bonds that never break. This book gives us the same heart pounding action and heart wrenching emotion we have come to expect from L. M. Pirrung. The acts of forgiveness, denial, betrayal, love, humility and hatred are expertly examined in EXPLOSION IN PARIS. Beautifully and sensitively written, her characters are realistic and well-developed. Pirrung has a true gift for showing how God's light can penetrate even the darkest situations. Diving deeper into the hearts of Angie and Ross who both love so unconditionally, show us how desperation can turn to hope, and how death can bring new life. What Mitch does to his wives is enough to make you want to throw the book across the room. Coming from a therapist's perspective, this will hopefully shed some light on the psychological power Pirrung conveys with her words. Mitch feels no guilt, no shame, which conveys quite a bit.If there is no conscience, the possibilities are endless as to his capabilities. Emotional pain and neglect is all Angie has known with Mitch who seems to have a wall of granite around his heart.

How does one survive the death of a loved one? Reeling from the news of Angie's death, Ross and Angie's sister vow to bring Mitch to justice; anger and pain has no limits. Pirrung creates characters so memorable that, as readers, we feel the urgency to pray for them and reach out to comfort them. This story of loss, sacrifice, love, and redemption will stay with me for a very long time. The subtle hints of Angie's existence to Ross are inspired!! This is one of my favorite parts in the book!! The author successfully kept her characters and story line complicated, but with no confusion. The only criticism I have is that I'd rather have read more about Ross than the ugly actions of Mitch, however there are absolutely no slow chapters in this book! We watch the characters navigate through a series of mysterious happenings, both chilling and affirming.

A very well written piece of thought-provoking literature, EXPLOSION IN PARIS has earned a spot in my top favorite books. If you are a reader of serious novels that tackle difficult issues and expose human behavior in all of its weakness, frailty, and sinfulness, then this will suck you in and the unique characters will touch your heart and/or drive you crazy, but you'll know you have experienced something important when you finish reading about them. If you have ever felt worthless and without hope read this book. I'm sure there are lots of Angela's out there. Angela's who live as the victims of suffocating abuse. Angela's who struggle to see their worth. Angela's who hope, in the same breath that they fear. Angela's who struggle to believe they are of value at the same time they long to be seen as valuable. Then the genuine, real love comes to support, rescue and give courage. This is a tough book to read in some places, but it more than makes up for it and becomes one of those warm, fuzzy reads where everyone lives happily ever after and you shut the book and fall asleep with a smile on your face.
