Overview

“If you like the TV show Bones (I do) or Maximum Ride, you’ll love Virals.”—James Patterson

Another thrilling Virals adventure from New York Times bestsellers Kathy and Brendan Reichs.

When twin classmates are abducted from Bolton Prep, Tory and the Virals decide there’s no one better equipped than them to investigate. But the gang has other problems to face. Their powers are growing wilder, and becoming harder to control. Chance Claybourne is investigating the disastrous medical experiment that twisted their DNA. The bonds that unite them are weakening, threatening the future of the pack itself.

The Virals must decipher the clues and track down a ruthless criminal before he strikes again, all while protecting their secret from prying eyes. And everyone seems to be watching.

Editorial Reviews

Voya Reviews, April 2014 (Vol. 36, No. 1) - Vikki Terrile
Tory and her friends Hi, Shelton, and Ben are Virals; exposure to an experimental canine virus has given them superpowers and a “pack” connection that also includes Tory’s wolfdog, Cooper. The connection is changing when two of their classmates are kidnapped. Can they solve the kidnapping while also trying to figure out more about the virus, their powers, and their connection to one another? This fourth Virals novel is an engaging blend of techno-thriller, science fiction, prep school drama, and even some romance. Tory is a reliable but unremarkable narrator, and the other characters are also somewhat flat, the one exception being Hi, whose comic asides steal the show. While most of the book is in Tory’s first-person narrative, there are a few brief third-person chapters from minor characters’ perspectives that, once the mystery is solved, seem unneeded. There are also first-person chapters at the end from each of the boys, which is slightly confusing but necessary in order for the reader to understand how they find Tory without the authors resorting to having the characters explain after the fact. The members of the pack are supposed to be genius science geeks, so the two occasions when they have information explained to them by adult experts and have trouble following the relatively straightforward explanations do not make much sense, but this is otherwise an enjoyable read for both fans of the series and new readers. Reviewer: Vikki Terrile; Ages 11 to 15.

I have read the whole series and I just finished Exposure, it was by far my favorite book yet! I highly recommend this book for fellow high schoolers.

**I won this book through Goodreads First Reads giveaway. In no way has this influenced my rating or opinion of this book. Thank you to Goodreads and to Kathy and Brendan Reichs for this opportunity!**

I would like to mention right off the start that I did not read any of the previous novels before this one. But it did not alter my opinion that this was a wonderful and exciting read! The authors gave me enough clues that I could follow along and understand, but also kept those clues minimal enough that I am intrigued enough to want to collect all the other books and future books to read!

This was a fast paced and thrilling read. There are many plot twists and of course the always wonderful "who dunnit?" story line. I was kept guessing right up till the very end. I did not read any of the previous books, but that did not stop me from developing a love for many of the characters. I loved the dynamics between Tory and Ben. But I also enjoyed the likable qualities of Shelton and Hi. I will be very interested in seeing what happens with Chance and the fact that he has been delving into the Virals experiments. Don't want to spoil anything by saying too much about that subject...but WOW, I did not see that one coming.

The book mentions it predecessor early on. The Virals are in court testifying in the trial of The GameMaster. (already intrigued enough to want to find out what all that was about!) Then the authors take you right into the next mystery case that needs to be solved. A set of twins that go to the same school as the Virals have been kidnapped! A ransom tape and some Tarot cards are all the Virals have to go on. Add in some high tech hacking and some teenage sleuths....and you are in for a awesome ride with this book!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrilling adventures, mysteries and a dash of uncomfortable attraction. I really look forward to reading all the books that came before this one and any that come out after :-)

    Awesome series

There are good plot twists in this book. Tory makes a few stupid calls. However, this book was just as good as the preceding 3.
