*John Boehner’s "Tollbooth": How the Speaker of the House extracts money by soliciting political donations before he will hold crucial votes on the House floor.

*The "Slush Fund": How politicians extract "campaign contributions" and then convert them to bankroll lavish lifestyles complete with limos, private jets, golf at five-star resorts, fine wines, and cash for family members.

*Capitol Hill’s "Underground Economy": How congressmen use a little-known loophole that allows them to secretly link their votes to cash.

Extortion finally makes clear why Congress is so dysfunctional: it’s all about making money, not making law.

    Wow! A must read.

We all know what is really happening within our government but this book lays it all out giving light to the dirty politics that created the mess that our country is in today. You will understand why they are constantly drafting thousands of pages of bills that have nothing to do with fixing our country. It is all about extorting money. The more industries they can put in harms way the more the can extort. The longer they hold off on voting on a bill the longer they can continue to extort. By making the bills expire they then get to ride that extortion train again and again everytime it comes up for renewal. It is both sides that extort on every issue. To top it all off both the RNC and the DNC also extort from the members of congress on an annual basis and if the members do not pay up they will lose their position and not be helped by their party at re-election time. We knew that corporations were buying votes. What we didn't realize is the level of extortion that is really going on forcing corporations and industries to "donate" to both sides. They are being shaken down continually by the gangster mob we call congress. Buy this book. Read this book. Tell others about this book. Our system is badly broken with no chance of recovery with the current system of extortion we have.

    Fastastic yet horrific

If only 10% of what Mr. Schweizer writes about our politicians in Washington is true, every American should be horrified as to how crooked they are. He calls it "extortion"; bit it's just plain bribery and every politician should be thrown in jail and we shoulf throw the key away. Now I know why I have always refused to contribute to any politicians campaign. If you or I did any of this, we would be in jail right now. These politicians have NO morals or ethics or any sense of what is wrong or right. All they care about is being reelected and fleece the American taxpayers. It's no wonder that Congressional ratings are so low!!! They are just a bunch of crooks. Period.

Thorough, lots of examples, thought provoking.

Great book, my first from Peter Schweizer. Easy to understand and yet very thorough in descriptions. Great book, scary but good.

    I recommend this book.

This book should be required reading in all civics classes. This is also a good reason for very short term limits. Graft and extortion at its finest.

Very excellent read! The corruption and greed of some of our politicians is astonishing and unbelievable. This books shows corruption within of each political party. The authors other book “Throw Them All Out” may be the only solution to trying to regain control of the people’s government.

This is a must-read book if you are an American citizen.

This is a superb, brilliantly written and very well documented expose on the gross and fraudulent operations of both Democrats and Republicans to extort money from American citizens and businesses by threatening and implementing legislation harmful to their needs and existence.

Whether you're a Republican or Democrat you're unlikely to ever support or fund a Congressional or Senatorial candidate once you read this book.

It should be taught in every university in America.

    Mike Bond
Author and former U.S. Senate candidate.

I have always wondered how politicians can earn a decent wage but live like the rich.  This is best book I have read regarding the
quite internal workings used by both sides of the isle and how they (and their loved ones) legally become wealthy. I finished the book
feeling disgusted with politicians. However,  I feel better prepared to endorse realistic reforms efforts. And, I highly recommend  reading the
foot notes that validate the overall messages within the book. Rick, Frazier Park, CA

A revealing look at the politics you don't read about!

An interesting look at what goes on behind the scenes of political life. Unbelievable what our government can get away with, and why there is no incentive for change.
