Overview

Discusses extraordinary dreams and offers suggestions for interpreting and appreciating your own extraordinary dreams.

From visions of a past life to glimpses of the future, history is full of accounts of unusual dreams. This fascinating book explores historical, scientific, and cross-cultural research on these sorts of extraordinary dreams, and offers practical suggestions on how to work with them—either individually or as a member of a dream group—to enhance one’s intellectual, emotional, and spiritual health. Each chapter is devoted to a particular type of dream, and presents a summary of research data on their nature. Specific categories of dreams discussed include creative, lucid, out-of-body, pregnancy, healing, collective, telepathic, clairvoyant, precognitive, past-life, initiation, and spiritual visitation dreams, as well as dreams within dreams. Entertaining and instructive, this book points the way to an expanded conception of human potential for the twenty first century.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
“An excellent integration of science, historical, cross-cultural, and personal perspectives on extraordinary dreams. Rarely does one see such a seamless combination of these widely divergent views.” — Jayne Gackenbach, editor of Psychology and the Internet: Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, and Transpersonal Implications

“A fascinating book that is wonderfully easy to read—these extraordinary dreams are part of virtually everyone’s experience, yet they are not adequately covered in traditional books on dreaming.” — Allan Combs, author of The Radiance of Being: Complexity, Chaos and the Evolution of Consciousness

“The topic is of great importance and significance, both to the academic world and the general public. The book is very clear, readable, and engagingly written.” — Jeremy Taylor, author of Where People Fly and Water Runs Uphill: Using Dreams to Tap the Wisdom of the Unconscious

“This short, scholarly, and practical book provides a key for opening the vast literature on dreaming and dreamwork.” — Dream Network
