All Music Guide - Richie Unterberger
Waller's first album falls into the cracks of something that seems to be attempting to catch the slightly alternative singer/songwriter market and also gets a slice of adult contemporary radio play at the same time. Whether that's a conscious strategy or not, who knows? But at any rate, his songs are drifting, predominantly love-minded meditations with an air of uncertainty and doubt. They're not as impressive as his singing, which has a very wide range, particularly at the top end, where he sounds almost effeminate. What the heck

First of all, the All Music Guide review here is ridiculous...what the heck is this guy thinking? Do I care about how an artist stacks up against the market segments? Nope. As for the song writing vs. the vocals comment, it's simply wrong. The song form is unique, but clearly masterful if not genius. This is the sort of reviewer that would place Aerosmith over Joni Mitchel and Britney Spears over Jeff Buckley...whatever. Anyway...the disk is inspiring and beautiful.

    Simply enchanting...

This CD is one of the best I've picked up in a while. Holcombe Waller's music is refreshing, hip and cutting edge. This is not a one-hit wonder - every song is good!

    Hot damn

Finally in stores...jeeez. This CD is simply amazing - beautiful, powerful. I've had a burned - i.e. stolen - copy for a while and am pleased the real thing has arrived.

    I know the truth...

This album is a piece of melodic and lyric pop utopia. Don't wait until everyone knows about Extravagent Gesture - buy it now! If you like Jeff Buckley, Jude, John Mayer, etc, you will love Holcombe Waller.
