Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Sexy starlets, serious actresses and hunky stuntmen scramble for love during a film shoot in this fun but predictable contemporary romance from bestseller London (Wedding Survivor). Leah Klein's promising acting career fizzled after the love of her life, Michael Raney, left her suddenly. Five years later, she's struggling for jobs in commercials when she lands the role of Soccer Mom #5 in War of the Soccer Moms, a movie that turns out to be stunt coordinator Michael's latest gig. Since seeing Leah in a laxative commercial, Michael can't stop thinking about her; when he arrives on set to find her among a gaggle of his former lovers, he resolves to win her back. Leah, embittered and suspicious, focuses on evading Michael while her fellow "soccer moms" flirt outrageously with him. The plot deepens slightly when Michael reveals that he is a former CIA agent, and that he left Leah because of his job-a claim Leah finds hard to swallow until an enemy from Michael's past reappears, putting them both in danger. Though often resorting to easy cliches (women "cooed like a flock of doves") and outdated jokes (Austin Powers, anyone?), London's story delivers some sensual trysts and funny characters. I Also Recommend:

    Enjoyed this fun romp

It took me a minute to get into this story, but once it got rolling I really enjoyed it. The others in the series are also quite good.

    good second in series

Totally enjoyed. Got a little bored with all the small players taking up so much space but I guess it was necessary to make the book

    Good read.

Leah Kleinschmidt was in love with Michael Raney, a financier, for almost a year when they lived in New York. Leah had just finished as a smashing success on Broadway and had high hopes for their future together. But she did not really know that Michael was CIA and his entire background a lie ... not even when he suddenly dumped her and disappeared with no good reason. .................. Five years later: ...................... Leah 'Klein' has moved to LA in hopes of picking up the pieces of her life. She had grieved so badly that even her agent had quit calling her. The time has come to snap out of it and get on with her life. In LA she snags a couple of commercials but could find nothing big. Her agent kept telling Leah to go for character roles. Finally, Leah takes the advice and lands a part in the motion picture 'War of the Soccer Moms'. Leah and about nineteen other women must endure a three week boot camp to toughen up and learn team work for their war in the film, camouflage, weapons, and all. The last thing Leah expects is to see Michael there as one of the stunt coordinators. .................... Michael has never been able to forget Leah. She is the only woman he has actually regretted having to leave. Now departed from the CIA, Michael spends a lot of time with his buddies at Thrillseekers Anonymous 'T.A.' The men are having a difficult time getting the women ready for the stunts they will have to pull off during the film. Michael has no idea Leah is part of the movie until he sets eyes on her. Here is his second chance! The problem is that a few of his other ditched girlfriends are also there. If he manages to somehow get Leah to listen to him, Michael will have to admit that everything she knows of him is a lie. But what woman would really believe a line so cheesy as 'I was a spy?' ....................... *** A good chunk of the story is focused on the two main characters, as it should be. Danger does not begin to rear its head until late into the story. Toward the middle things began to get too slow. Leah is not a person/character I could ever come to really like. Yet the author kept my attention by adding characters from the previous novel (The Wedding Survivor). Leah and Lucy swap some humorous emails which made things a bit more believable for me. All-in-all, this read is fun, charming at times, and well worth your money. ***

    An amusing romantic romp

In Manhattan life is perfect for Leah Klein because she lives with the man she loves Michael Raney. Leah assumes that one day they will marry and raise a family. That is until he suddenly vanishes without warning from her life.------------- A devastated Leah slowly moves on with her life and begins to seek acting jobs until she lands a speaking role in The War of the Soccer Moms. To her shock, Michael Raney is a stuntman on the set. Even more stunning he wants chapter two to begin, but Leah refuses out of fear that she will not recuperate. Michael explains he left her without warning for her safety as his enemies from years of spying were coming for him and unbeknownst to Michael still are.---------------- This amusing romantic romp is hard to put down once started because the likable lead couple and the eccentric support cast are fun to follow as they go from one jocular caper after another sort of like a Hudson-Day Pillow Talk gender fight. The story line centers on Michael desperately wanting a second chance while Leah, as only a woman can, puts him through the rinse cycle with enthusiastic élan. Julie London provides a fun contemporary second chance romance that readers will cherish.---------- Harriet Klausner
