Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Denise Daley
This extremely interesting book chronicles five of what may be considered the most daring explorations of all time. Fear of the unknown prevents most people from traveling into foreign areas, but the courageous people in this book overcame this fear and took risks that led to some amazing discoveries. The adventures of Ferdinand Magellan, David Livingstone, Mary Kingsley, Ernest Shackleton, and Neil Armstrong take the reader from Magellan's sail around the world in the 1500s to Armstrong's lunar exploration in 1969. Intended as an introduction to these bold adventures, this book does not contain a great deal of specifics. Instead, it includes highlights of each exploration combined with intriguing facts and numerous photographs, drawings, maps, and quotes. The interesting topic of this book, along with its appealing and colorful format, will surely engage and excite even the most reluctant young readers. This book is part of the "Difficult & Dangerous" series. Reviewer: Denise Daley
