Overview

Thirty years ago, after the breakdown of an oil negotiation, the President of the United States decided that all people born with unusual abilities, which he would now refer to as "the condition", would be locked away from the general public where they couldn't harm others. Parents and loved ones of these people, most of whom were children, were forced to turn them in upon penalty of death. Formed to keep the institutions secure, the Committee for the Protection of a Free Society now rules these institutions with an iron fist.

The granddaughter of one the Committee members, Addison Wade has lived her life wary of the institutions and all they represent. A woman of secrets, she is forced to turn to Safe Dawn, one of the facilities designed to hold conditioned people, when her nephew is kidnapped and, despite her best efforts, cannot be recovered. She knows the last thing anyone in 'Safe Dawn' will want to do is to help a Wade with any problems, but she is desperate and out of options.

Spencer Lewis is famous for being the premier conditioned 'locator.' There's no one he can't find and he has a soft spot for missing children. But, Spencer has been through a trauma and locating Jeremy Wade may be dangerous both to himself and to those around him. In addition, he takes one look at ice cold Addison Wade and wants nothing more than to knock her down a peg. Never having turned down an opportunity to help a child, he reluctantly agrees to help recover Jeremy.

In a world where nothing is as it seems and every person they encounter has his own agenda, Addison and Spencer will find that the only people they can trust are each other. But how can anyone fall in love living in a world that wants you dead just for being born?

Meet the Author

As a teenager, Rebecca would hide in her room to read her favorite romance novels when she was supposed to be doing her homework. She hopes, these days, that her parents think it was worth it.

She is the mother of three adorable boys and she is fortunate to be married to her best friend. They live in northern New Jersey and try not to freeze too badly during the winter months.

She is in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the pararnormal and tries to use all of these elements in her writing. She's been told she's a little bloodthirsty so she hopes that when you read her work you'll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. She loves to write series because she loves to see characters develop over time and it always makes her happy to see her favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In her world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.

This book is amazing. The world that was created, the character development, the chemistry, the plot, and the sheer talent of the author all combine to take you on a roller coaster ride that will keep the pages turning well into the night. I am absolutely hooked on this series and cannot wait to read more. I became so invested in some of the characters that it's remarkably hard to wait until I've finished my review before I go see what other books in the series are available and which of the characters I've met already have their own stories. I would definitely recommend this for any fan of the paranormal genre who is looking for something just a little bit different. *****I was provided a free copy of this book for my honest review.*****

Rebecca Royce has built a world that almost tears your heart out just reading about it. Families torn apart by genetics that no one can predict or control. There is one main Committee that tries to control all aspects of this new Condition that has popped up. With only one company in charge, they will make all the rules and control all the people and their mysterious powers. Someone has broken in and kidnapped a child. Not just any child, but the great-grandson of one of the most powerful men in the world. This little boy will become a pawn in a deadly game of control. This story follows Addison Wade as she attempts to find her nephew. She will use any method and go to any length to find him, including working with the Conditioned people. The Conditioned man she needs to work with is Spencer Lewis. But Addison is a Wade and the Wades are the family who created Spencer's little prison. So the Conditioned may not want to help her. Spencer has one of the best abilities to find missing people. An accident with his partner has left him a bit unstable and unable to go very far into the 'dark place' to help Addison. But helping her might make things better for the other Conditioned people. She might one day sit on a seat on the Committee and be able to make the rules that affect his life. So helping her would be helping others like himself. This was a great suspense novel, I never knew what to expect next. I was squeezing my eReader so hard that it was turning pages by itself for a while there. When sparks started to fly between Addison and Spencer, I wasn't sure if it was the story or the eReader! I will be looking forward to the next book in the series. ** Note ** I was given a copy of this book for review purposes. I did not receive any chocolate, promises of glory, or any other compensation for my review.

In Eye Contact, Rebecca Royce takes us on a thrilling ride filled in equal parts with heart-pounding intrigue and the softness of a growing, Cinderella-style love. Here, in Royce's rendition of Earth, those whose genetics grant them extrasensory powers are termed "Conditioned" and confined to compounds, and are only allowed outside to help those who can pay for their special abilities. Enter heiress Addison Wade, a young woman who defies her family to seek the special assistance of the Conditioned's most powerful finder, Spencer Lewis, to help locate her kidnapped nephew. Sparks fly as the two wend their way through a complicated mystery, and as they walk the dangerous paths together, both discover that success will mean learning to look beneath the surface of all things they have ever believed. My highest recommendation.
