From NY Times Bestselling author Bob Mayer:

A US Army Special Forces team carrying sterilized weapons and unmarked uniforms is on its way to Colombia. The mission: conduct covert, unilateral raids to destroy cocaine processing laboratories.

Of course nothing is as it seems especially once the CIA gets involved. Throw in an Israeli mercenary, betrayal and double-dealing in Washington and the team soon finds itself wondering what the real mission is.

"A scorcher of a novel. Mayer had me hooked from the very first page." Stephen Coonts

When Colombia secretly requests U.S. aid against the drug cartel, a Special Forces A-Team becomes the ``eyes'' guiding gunships and helicopters--the ``hammer''--against jungle cocaine-processing labs. Then treachery leaves four Green Berets dead and one in the hands of the ``Ring Man,'' deadliest of the drug lords. Special Forces warrant officer Riley and CIA agent Kate Westland are sent in to kill the Ring Man and rescue the prisoner. Their slim chances sink to near-zero when Washington pulls the plug on the mission. But before his people are abandoned, a veteran Special Forces colonel still has a few cards to play. In his first novel (launching a series), former Green Beret Mayer successfully establishes the nuanced differences among U.S. Special Operations units: rangers, Delta Force and Special Forces. But his story line jumps unconvincingly from covert infiltration mission to secret agent-type assassination to commando raid. Descriptions of the tools of unconventional warfare are static, and characters, with the exception of agent Westland, never achieve full dimension. (July)

A thriller that delivers in all areas--plot, suspense, authenticity, and pace. Riley, a Special Forces man, is sent to one of a series of invasions of Colombia to destroy cocaine processing plants. After two successes and one failure, he is assigned to terminate a drug lord. His companion is a woman, Westland, a CIA agent. The intrigue and plotting of the military and various government agencies, in the United States and Colombia, and the incredible Colombian corruption are interwoven into a minor masterpiece of technology and suspense. The climax will have the reader yearning for more nails to bite. A first novel by a former Green Beret, this is not to be missed by fans of the genre.-- Robert H. Meet the Author

NY Times bestselling author Bob Mayer has had over 50 books published. He has sold over four million books, and is in demand as a team-building, life-changing, and leadership speaker and consultant for his Who Dares Wins: The Green Beret Way concept. He is the Co-Creator of Cool Gus Publishing.

Bob Mayer grew up in the Bronx. After high school, he entered West Point where he learned about the history of our military and our country. During his four years at the Academy and later in the Infantry, Mayer questioned the idea of "mission over men." When he volunteered and passed selection for the Special Forces as a Green Beret, he felt more at ease where the men were more important than the mission.

Mayer's obsession with mythology and his vast knowledge of the military and Special Forces, mixed with his strong desire to learn from history, is the foundation for his science fiction series Atlantis, Area 51 and Psychic Warrior. Mayer is a master at blending elements of truth into all of his thrillers, leaving the reader questioning what is real and what isn't.

He took this same passion and created thrillers based in fact and riddled with possibilities. His unique background in the Special Forces gives the reader a sense of authenticity and creates a reality that makes the reader wonder where fact ends and fiction begins.

In his historical fiction novels, Mayer blends actual events with fictional characters. He doesn't change history, but instead changes how history came into being.

Mayer's military background, coupled with his deep desire to understand the past and how it affects our future, gives his writing a rich flavor not to be missed.

From beginning to end, Bob Mayer keeps the pages turning. I've never given a book a Five Star rating, but this was an easy decision. If you want Spec Ops action, with constant suprises and a great ending, EYES OF THE HAMMER is it.

A good read, though it does have some spelling and line continuation issues.

Pretty good book. I like his writing style and the pace was pretty fast. The ending was a little abrupt, but still a good read.

The book was okay, but was written before Desert Shield. Once in a while there are some continuity problems, but a fun, light read, even for an old retired real Green Beret.

This was an extremely fun and enjoyable read. A page turner for me, couldn't wait to see what happened next. It's an older one but well worth the read if you enjoy military based stories.

Detailed Information Provides Realistic Feel Mayer’s knowledge of military protocol as well as all the tools of the trade supplements the details of this interesting premise. A conspiracy between opposing Colombian parties commences a Special Forces operation against drug lords. When the conspiracy turns against the American forces, Special Forces warrant officer Riley turns assassin to save the day. The detailed information about the process of Special Forces teams creates believable scenarios. The action is non-stop, sure to keep the reader with the book until the end. Do not look for a love story here. I thoroughly enjoyed the fast pace and the detailed look at military life.  I recommend it for readers of military suspense. I already have the next in the series.

Bob Mayer is able to take his experiences as a Green Beret and use them in this book to show how much planning goes into a Special Ops mission. The story follows a group of soldiers as they plan a mission into Columbia to take out drug factories. From start to finish the reader is able to connect to the characters and experience the mission first hand with them. Great book to kick off the Dave Riley series.

Fast pace and good story. Good plot twists so reader has to pay attention. A few story items are a stretch, but that makes Mayer's work that much more enjoyable.
