I was challenged with managing a portfolio of projects, when the projects themselves were not being standardized appropriately. George's book clarified for me 'right down to where the rubber meets the road', projects that fail and projects that succeed. The case studies are relayed simple enough to allow for quick participation with immediate results. As the old saying asks, If you needed surgery, would you rather be operated on by a surgeon with a butcher knife, or by a butcher with a scalpel?' I recommend this book for those PMs, like me, that want the truth, clear and simple!
Eyes Right was a quick read and right on the mark. Based upon case studies, it allows you to recognize the individual project management pattern you are facing in your organization.
Good overview of what can go wrong with a project and how to make it right next time. Analyzes real projects. Recommended for new project managers. Good to use for round table discussions in PM groups.
Eyes Right was a joy to read as it quickly gets to the basic premise that there are certain, repeatable facets of project management that must be addressed to help insure successful implementation. Rather than concentrating on long-winded non-essential/intricate elements of individual projects that would be of little value to the reader and tend to direct necessary focus away from the real and solvable problem areas, Eyes Right¿s author seeks to get to the heart of those key issues which frequently surface project to project. Each case study while unique, reflect the same basic message that certain issues must be dealt with to insure success. These case studies are well presented, contain the varied experiences of the author and contribute to the author`s primary theme. Eyes Right is a quick and easy read that is highly recommended for the experienced project manager (as a reminder to remain focused on what these important elements really are) as well as to new project managers or students just learning the ¿ropes¿.
