Overview

When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile. Disguised among the "mundys," their name for normal citizens of modern-day New York, these magical characters created their own secret society that they call Fabletown. From their exclusive luxury apartment buildings on Manhattan's Upper West Side, these creatures of legend must fight for their survival in the new world.

I was really skeptical about reading this because it looked and sounded like Once Upon A Time on ABC…I WAS SO WRONG. In Fabletown New York, all of our favorite childhood fairytale characters have been kicked out of their homelands by an evil force and have now built a community in our world. I love the story and that it's told like a CSI show but with characters like Snow White, The Big Bad Wolf, Jack and the Beanstalk and more. It's really awesome to see all of them acting like adults in adult situations and trying to solve murder cases and other problems they have in their community. Fables is a must read to young adults (and up) who are interested in getting into comics and or love twist on fairytales.

Thoughts before reading: Heard about this when it was being compared to the show Once Upon a Time. I hadn't read this before but I get why they think that. But at the same time, both are good, a little different but good. While reading: Well, this is definitely different than the kid friendly tales. The art was really good and the story itself is interesting. Liked the little references to some of the characters, either by name or hints as to whose who. After reading: This was a good start and really want to read the other volumes in the series.
