Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The craft of decorative painting has benefited greatly from the recent proliferation of the types of paints and other supplies now available in craft shops. Projects in both these books use materials that did not exist or were hard to find as recently as ten years ago. Designer/teacher Baer's Painting Gilded Florals and Fruits has sample exercises for applying metal leaf (gold, silver, copper, aluminum) or metallic paints. Step-by-step projects include painting and gilding a wooden bowl, a metal seed box, or an album cover in floral designs. Baskett, owner of a crafts company, presents step-by-step projects for colorful indoor and outdoor furniture using acrylic craft paint combined with decorating techniques. Particularly interesting is a faux parquet project using several wood stains on a plain unfinished chest. Other projects are mainly for new or refinished tables and chairs. Both books are suitable for public library crafts collections needing up-to-date material. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
