Overview

Success hasn't spoiled Sully Erna. Godsmack's leader made his mark on millions by raging against, well, just about everything you'd care to mention -- and he continues to air his grievances on this follow-up to his band's self-titled, multi-platinum breakthrough. Names aren't named, but the No. 1 spot is probably held by the object of "I F--king Hate You," a spasmodically lurching riff-fest punctuated by some of Erna's fiercest howls. "I Stand Alone" is similarly disaffected in tone, but the band -- particularly guitarist Tony Rombola -- holds back a little, replacing full-throttle roar with a lower-pitched but still menacing rumble. On "Serenity" (the last word one would normally use in any description of these New Englanders), Godsmack even daub a layer of orchestration over their largely acoustic chord progressions. For the most part, however, Faceless retains the energy-über-alles philosophy that's made Godsmack virtually unassailable at the top of rock's list of most moshable metallurgists.

All Music Guide - Wade Kergan
Godsmack's first, slow-burning success -- the self-titled debut from 1998 -- spent two years climbing charts and selling records as the witchy minstrels of alternative metal wound their way across the country on two consecutive Ozzfest tours. The sound was familiar enough, recalling Alice in Chains in both vocalist Sully Erna's tortured howls and their very name, taken from that band's excellent 1992 release, Dirt. And while it initially failed to impress critics, fans quickly picked up on the band's industrial touch to the post-grunge sound. Likewise, 2001's Awake was regarded by some as a sophomore slump, with only half of the sales of Godsmack's debut, but "slump" in this case equaled double-platinum. And though the sales did validate the band's effort to some extent, Awake was full of growing pains, as they tried in vain to shed their influences and ended up with a record that had successful moments, but its reliance on stop-start rhythms often left it sounding sorely underwritten. Faceless, Godsmack's third full-length, grooves more fluidly than Awake, but the band still hasn't managed to locate the pop hooks that made their debut a success. And while concentrating on texture can be just as interesting as hooks, lyrics as misanthropic as Erna's only sink Faceless further into the mire.

I picked up this cd the day it came out, and im glad that i did. This album has lots of good tracks, my favorite being "Serenity", an acoustic song which is real cool. Other than that, it's typical ass kickin Godsmack that we've always known. Pick this album up, trust me.

Godsmack are the kings of new metal! They have done it again with this new release. I would say in my opinion this is their best CD yet. The first single off the album STRAIGHT OUT OF LINE is an amazing song that is true to their own original style and sound. The band has matured musically on this new CD, and I love every bit of it. I would highly recommend this CD for anyone that is a fan of Godsmack or heavy rock music. It's a must have!

This has got to be Godsmack's best album so far, it really is amazing. It is unlike what they have done before, Sully's range of vocals are better than they've ever been, Shannon's drumming is so unique, Robbie's bass playing is as good as ever and Tony's guitar riffs are just brilliant. Key tracks to look out for are Serenity, I Am and Releasing The Demons. All in all this is a really great album to get into, I can't stop listening to it. Some great tracks to blast out really loud and release some anger to and then one even better track to chill out to - which seems to sum up the whole album's feel. The only low point of this album I feel is "I Stand Alone" simply because it has been over-played so much. If you are a Godsmack or Heavy Metal/Rock fan definitely check this one out, you will not be disappointed.

Godsmack has always given the fans what they need to relieve the built stress of daily life. With this, their third album, they do just that. In this cd you'll find fast riffs and awesome solos. While all the songs are amazing, I've found "I F***ing Hate You" to be the favorite of all. This song is filled with awesome riffs and Sully Erna saying what else but "I f***ing hate you". Yes, that's right, the foursome still have plenty of anger and frustration to last a lifetime. While I don't want the guys to get mad all the time or be put through alot of bad times, the songs that are a result from those situations are simpily amazing. Other great tracks include "Straight Out Of Line", "Faceless", and "Serenity". You can also find the great Scorpion King song "I Stand Alone". I highly recommend this, for the lack of a better word, phenomenal cd.

Once again, Godsmack shows that they are a force to be reckoned with. Fans of Godsmack's dominant music will be enthusiastic about the most recent effort, Faceless. The hard driving, hard hitting energy of the music on this release is impetuously crafted. This is pure rock. Each song has a special & incomparable feel. Shannon Larkin, the new drummer, brings tons of energy & superior drumming skills to this endeavor. Godsmack went all out on this one. This album is to say the least brilliant!

Godsmack did it again. They topped off Godsmack and Awake with yet another number one album Faceless. It is nothing less than amazing. It will leave you craving more.

Boston based band Godsmack are no longer faceless, April 8th, 2003 the new long anticipated album Faceless was released in stores. Lead singer Sully Erna has incredible vocals, while guitar player Tony Rambola tears through the scene with inspiring guitar riffs, and Robbie Merrill shows his true talent on his new 5 string bass. The newly added Face to godsmack, drummer Shannon Larkin, has incredible druming skills on the album as seen and heard on the new single "Straight out of Line". Debuting at #1 on the billboard top 200, Faceless proves to stick Godsmack somewhere they belong and that is on top. If you love rock, classic rock, metal, or basically any genre of music, you should definettly make the trip to the store to buy this album, surely one of the best albums of the year.

Godsmack's most recent release, "Faceless", is the best new album out there. Godsmack has proven once again that they are one of the best, if not the best metal bands out there.

Godsmack's third album is better than the other two... The energy they put into record can be felt easily. My personal favorites so far are "Changes" "Faceless" "Releasing The Demons" and "Serenity" I have been a Godsmack fan since the self-titled album and this has to be the best work they have done. The new drummer is awesome, Tony's solos are great as ever, Robbie still plays his bass in a catchy way, and Sully's vocals are just as great (if not better) than ever. The heavy melodic sounds are so catchy, and when the music is already catchy, Sully's voice makes it even more catchy. I was totally satisfied with this album. The best work Godsmack has done and makes me look forward to future albums.

Faceless is an extremely mesmerizing cd. Godsmack has taken their talent to an even higher level. The sound of tribal drums was an excellent addition. The lyrics are typically deep and strong. Music stayed chilling. Excellent buy!

I know I do not 'Stand Alone' when I say Faceless has to be Godsmack's best album to date. They have produced a work of art that can be played over and over, all the way through without a hitch. Each and every song on the CD is a small story to delve into with pleasure. "Serenity", the accoustical song at the end of the CD is a soothing lyrical journey for your mind. And if you need to really bang your head, turn it up for "Releasing the Demons" and you can annoy the neighbors. Get it today and know what true rock is all about.

This album has it all killer guiter riffs, heavy drum beats, and powerful lyrics it has something for everyone. Only once in a lifetime do you get an album that is truly timeless and this is it. Godsmack, who's unique sence of style when it comes to their music, is an extraordinary mix of metel, tribal, and old fashioned rock. The lead singer, Sully Erna, who's voice is so powerful is sure to mesmerize you until the very end. No matter what your musical taste this album is sure to please and leave you wanting more. So pick up two copies because you are sure to wear out the first copy the very first day.
