Success hasn't spoiled Sully Erna. Godsmack's leader made his mark on millions by raging against, well, just about everything you'd care to mention -- and he continues to air his grievances on this follow-up to his band's self-titled, multi-platinum breakthrough. Names aren't named, but the No. 1 spot is probably held by the object of "I F--king Hate You," a spasmodically lurching riff-fest punctuated by some of Erna's fiercest howls. "I Stand Alone" is similarly disaffected in tone, but the band -- particularly guitarist Tony Rombola -- holds back a little, replacing full-throttle roar with a lower-pitched but still menacing rumble. On "Serenity" (the last word one would normally use in any description of these New Englanders), Godsmack even daub a layer of orchestration over their largely acoustic chord progressions. For the most part, however, Faceless retains the energy-├╝ber-alles philosophy that's made Godsmack virtually unassailable at the top of rock's list of most moshable metallurgists.
All Music Guide - Wade Kergan
Godsmack's first, slow-burning success -- the self-titled debut from 1998 -- spent two years climbing charts and selling records as the witchy minstrels of alternative metal wound their way across the country on two consecutive Ozzfest tours. The sound was familiar enough, recalling Alice in Chains in both vocalist Sully Erna's tortured howls and their very name, taken from that band's excellent 1992 release, Dirt. And while it initially failed to impress critics, fans quickly picked up on the band's industrial touch to the post-grunge sound. Likewise, 2001's Awake was regarded by some as a sophomore slump, with only half of the sales of Godsmack's debut, but "slump" in this case equaled double-platinum. And though the sales did validate the band's effort to some extent, Awake was full of growing pains, as they tried in vain to shed their influences and ended up with a record that had successful moments, but its reliance on stop-start rhythms often left it sounding sorely underwritten. Faceless, Godsmack's third full-length, grooves more fluidly than Awake, but the band still hasn't managed to locate the pop hooks that made their debut a success. And while concentrating on texture can be just as interesting as hooks, lyrics as misanthropic as Erna's only sink Faceless further into the mire.

    The new version of Sabbath.....

If your a metal head from the old school, you have to see the similarity to Black Sabbath. These bands are almost identical in every way, except Godsmack has a little faster tempo. I saw these guys a couple of months ago and they are the best live heavy band I have ever seen. Fantastic rhythm section, and a guitar sound that really fits their style. Hope they continue to crank.

    awesome

This band is so cool. They come up with some of the hardest riffs. I really like straight out of line and i stand alone. They are the best songs on the cd.

    Faceless

Godsmack's latest CD is one that I really like. It isn't my favorite disk of the bands three (I give that honor to "Awake")but it's still Godsmack, and it's still good.

Dude! Go Pick Up The Album!!! What U Waiting 4

When I got my album the day it came out I loved it right off the bat. It hasn't left my cd players since. I think the new Godsmack album is a good listen. It's classic Godsmack. I love the lyrics and the sounds. "I Stand Alone" is one of my favorite tracks off the album not just b/c it was used for the movie - The Scorpin King but because of it's unique style and sound. All of the tracks on the album are something that every Godsmack fan should listen to and even those who aren't Godsmack fans. Donn't get me wrong. It is a album that you should go and pick up.

    Godsmack Gets Better Each Album

This album harkens back to the days of great 80's metal. It's what Metallica would be if "Load" never happened. Unfortunately the first release from the album, "Straight Out of Line", was slightly less than expected quality, but if you skip past it on the first listen you'll discover that Godsmack continue to travel back in time, searching for heavy metal that was actually good, with a touch of Godsmack flair. Granted, it follows the path of "Awake" and starts to dull near the end, but overall it triumphs over the last two albums. (Track seven: best song ever!)

    GODSMACK does it again!!

Not thinking anything could top GODSMACK or AWAKE, they did it again with FACELESS. Being a huge Godsmack fan, I pre-ordered the CD anxious to hear every song on it. I was absolutely amazed at how they can continue to make music that gets within the soul. Every song on the CD touches you in a different way and the vocals are outstanding!

    godsmack rocks

Godsamack's new cd FACELESS is definitely worth purchasing! FACELESS, as well as Godsmack's self-titled debut and sophmore release AWAKE, are packed with awesome tracks with hardcore beats and inspirationally aggressive lyrics.Godsmack's influences include Rush, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Metallica. However, Godsmack is one of a kind and their cds are experiences worth buying.

    Godsmacks done it again

Once again these Gods of heavy metal, have out shined the rest. Sully and the boys have given us great songs such as Straight Out of Line, Faceless, and I Stand Alone (which was also featured on The Scorpion King soundtrack). The outstanding riffs of the bass (Robbie Merrill) and guitar (Tony Rombola) are not to be tangled with. And their new drummer Shannon Larkin fits right in as if he has played with them forever. Sully's booming voice is never underestimated showing that Godsmack and Godsmack alone could only make this kind of music.

    Faceless No More

Godsmack has once again managed to blow me away! This album is by far better than the last two from Godsmack, (and that's saying a lot) The sounds are more melodic, and rhythmic, but still keep that same Godsmack sound that we all know and love! There's something for everyone in this album! There's high energy Rock, heavy stomp your feet rock, there's a little groove, and even something to relax to with "Serenity". I love this album! This is going to be Godsmack's year to ROCK THE WORLD!

    Faceless

When I first listend to this CD, I didn't really like it at first. After it had gotten a lot of publicity from Godsmack fans, though, I decided to listen to it again. Good thing that I did! I think the only reason I didn't like it in the first place was that their drummer left (we'll miss you, Tommy!)but their new drummer is reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaallllly good. (Really good is an understatement!) I had heared the song "I Stand Alone" when I bought the Scorpion King soundtrack. I liked that song, so why I didn't warm up to the album in the first place I'll never know. It's still not what I consider their best album (I give that honor to "Awake") but it's not a dissapointment, they still rock. Go pick up this album, you'll be glad you did.

    Godsmack brings "Energy Rock"

Godsmack's third album is better than the other two... The energy they put into record can be felt easily. My personal favorites so far are "Changes" "Faceless" "Releasing The Demons" and "Serenity" I have been a Godsmack fan since the self-titled album and this has to be the best work they have done. The new drummer is awesome, Tony's solos are great as ever, Robbie still plays his bass in a catchy way, and Sully's vocals are just as great (if not better) than ever. The heavy melodic sounds are so catchy, and when the music is already catchy, Sully's voice makes it even more catchy. I was totally satisfied with this album. The best work Godsmack has done and makes me look forward to future albums.
