Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
In the days following the terrorist attacks, Life magazine photographer Joe McNally worked -- in a studio just blocks from Ground Zero -- on a special photo project to commemorate the heroes of September 11th. Using a giant Polaroid camera (one that was 8 feet tall and 12 feet long), he created huge portraits of those brave men and women who had survived the horrors the world witnessed that tragic day: they include firefighters, police officers, rescue workers, WTC office workers, area schoolchildren, and the mayor of New York City.

    This book is perfect.

This book takes you to Ground Zero. You see the faces, you hear the stories, and you are there. It's an overwhelming depiction of the events of 9/11. You really should see this book.

    TRUE AMERICAN SPIRIT

As a firefighter who responded to the towers, and have met many of the FDNY members, I highly recommmend this book. I know first hand the dedication and heart ache they felt. This book puts a face on an trumatic event and is a piece of history. For adults and children alike.

The look in the eyes and the expressions on the faces say more than the words.

Unbelievable coverage and personal detail. A true look inside the lives of the courageous people. This touched me as much as that fateful day itself. All I can say is WOW!

    quietly powerful book

This book depicts pictures of rescue workers and survivors. Next to their picture, it says what they were doing when the planes hit. Then it quotes the person photographed with their thoughts. I only wish they could have printed more of these people's amazing stories. Forget sports stars and music stars, these are the true faces of heroes. This is a must have book for the ages.
