As a pastor I have to visit with patients 'in hospital and at home' who struggle with the questions surrounding life-threatening disease. Now, at last, I have found something I can leave a valuable tool after my visits - something the patient can read in sections, and a book that will tell them much more than a conversation can. Thanks to this book, I know patients will be living much closer to God in their time of need.

When I bought this book as a present for a friend with cancer, I didn't think the gift would - in the end - mean so much to me as well. This well-written book uses the experience of a cancer surgeon, the agony of disease and the grace of God to guide the reader to new levels of understanding. I cried when I read some of the case histories equally the author's candid stories of his own interaction with patients had me roaring with laughter. Here we have a writer who is not interested in impressing you with a glib autobiography he reaches his goal with the book by honesty, humor and a thorough dissection of what you live through once a doctor diagnoses the serious disease we all fear. The book addresses the emotions, the fears and the revelation the patient will experience. Equally, family and friends of the patient will gain new insight into what is happening and how to support their loved one. This is an essential book - to Face Surgery without Christ is unthinkable...
