Overview

For over a hundred years, psychology has looked for ways to heal individual souls. Now the being in need is the world. All the organizing forms that ought to enrich life with beauty, purpose and depth no longer do so. To heal ourselves we need to reimagine the world.

Beginning with the myth of the Soul of the World, Sophia, Sardello evokes a sense of the world filled with her presence. He suggests that the soul's primary parts-its arts of concentration, meditation, imagination, contemplation-do not belong to individual consciousness, but constitute a surrender of our subjective, personal states to the consciousness that is the soul of the world. He shows how, if we practice these arts, we can approach daily life in a new way. The author builds a psychology of the world-of architecture, money, the city, medicine, food and technology.

Author Biography:Robert Sardello, Ph.D. has been a practicing psychotherapist for over twenty years, working in existential, Jungian and archetypal psychologies. He is cofounder of the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture and of the School of Spiritual Psychology, and a faculty member of the Chalice of Repose Project in Missoula, Montana. He is the author of Love and the World: A Guide to Conscious Practice and Freeing the Soul from Fear.
