Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
The 5000-plus entries in this comprehensive education dictionary vary in length from a single sentence to paragraphs of 100-150 words. In addition to term definitions, entries include biographies of individuals and selected court cases (not normally included in such works), journal publications, federal and state laws, professional associations, and tests. Unfortunately, the book is uneven in the relevance of terms selected (e.g., ``annual meeting'' and ``form W-2'') and, in some cases, the reliability of the content. More exacting editing might have greatly reduced the size and content of this work. Robin Barrow and Geoffrey Milburn's A Critical Dictionary of Educational Concepts (St. Martin's, 1986) or Gene R. and Lynne S. Hawes's Concise Dictionary of Education (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1982) are preferred. Richard H. Quay, Miami Univ. Libs., Oxford, Ohio
