Urban Celtic fantasy slides down a dark, depressing slope in bestseller Moning's third Fever thriller (after Bloodfever), centered on a hunt for the Sinsar Dubh, a black magic book more than a million years old. As All Hallow's Eve in Dublin approaches, the walls between the human world and Faery verge on collapse. Can former Georgia peach MacKayla "Mac" Lane prevent a total invasion of the Unseelie Court? Originally intent on avenging her sister Alina's murder committed by Unseelie Lord Master, Mac's now a power-player in the war between the Seelie (good Fae) and Unseelie (bad Fae), after learning she's a Celtic sidhe-seeker who can sniff out OOPS (Objects of Power). Meanwhile, the attractive V'Lane, a death-by-sex Fae, wants Mac's help in securing the Sinsar Dubh for his Seelie queen, Aoibheal. At the end, erotic shocks await Mac in Dublin's vast Dark Zone, setting up feverish-if wary-expectations for the next installment. (Sept.)

I was hoping this was the last series. Unfortunately, it is not. There are two more. Series one was good, two was ok, and three just sort of dragged. I

Okay... I pre-ordered this book, thinking this was going to be the best one yet.. or at least answer some of the questions from the previous books. None of the questions have been answered, and Mac is no closer to finding her sister's killer, then when she first finds out she has been murdered. I painfully waited for at least a little spark between Mac and one of the leading men. Despite the lack of anything romantic in this book, there was no real plot. What makes me sick is the rape of Mac by multiple men. What a depressing book. I can't believe it took the author a year to come up with this book!

I was looking forward to this one, but was disappointed with it. Was this really a third book? Or just a long continuation of the second? Still do not know much about the characters ( against Mac or for Mac? Good or evil?). Not much happened to move the story forward by answering some questions and creating new ones. I really disliked the ending...what just happened? Where were either of the two characters that would normally have showed up at some point to save her or at least help her somewhat? I just found this installment to be very disappointing. It almost seemed as though the author may have been rushed to get another book out?

I so regret reading this book. I had absolutely loved the Highlander series. They were cute and romantic. When I bought the first of this series I could tell we were going off in a bit of a different direction but I kept hoping that KLM would get back to the type of story that drove me to read her work. I was so wrong. She has lost the ability to keep her characters interesting and enchanting. V'Lane , a powerful Fae now working as a travel agent for the weak and weary. No sex included. That is ridiculous. Not just that but he talked to Mac as if she were his counselor. JZB is into S and M. The scenes using Voice were not instructive. There were terrifying. One of the few people she could trust was now beating up on her. I don't fall for the tough love line of thinking. And, the birthday cake. That was just out of the blue and pathetic. It held no meaning to the story and was just thrown in Why? Inspector Payne was one of the few who grew. At least in this story he was trying to do his best to help. All the sacred objects worthless with Shades escaping. What was the point in taking so much time in finding them in the first place. Then we have Mac. She has lost her cuteness, she doesn't have any appeal. The ending was dreadful. I had so hoped when I bought this series I was going to be reading a Romantic love story. I enjoy that. But, I will never buy another book from this series. Nor will I buy another from this author. At least not new work. I have read the Highland series over and over. They are light hearted and make you feel warm and cuddily. This is not bedtime reading. It is depressing. And, nothing that happens in the story line will redeem the torture I put myself through reading it last night. The walls have fallen. I guess they will just stay that way. If I could make a suggestion. Ms. Moning your work was wonderful. You didn't need to go into the dark, not this way. As much as I love the vow the Druids take with their soul mates. And, I do love that. I dislike this series with just as much heart felt passion. This just didn't deliver to this hopeless romantic. Four fae on Mac, I nearly threw up. No longer a fan.

I've only read 2 reviews that agreed with me. I found myself asking if there was any point to this story? Will there be a point? I read it to the very end and found...there is no point. As fans are we supposed to keep buying her books in the hope that we will eventually figure out what she's driving to? I would NOT have bought this third story if I had known it would go nowhere and will not buy another one that goes nowhere. At times I felt the author just rambled aimlessly to take up pages. I always enjoyed her other books so when the new series came out I bought it joyfully in anticipation of another good read. The only way to describe my let down would be...if a devoted Stephen King fan bought his newest book looking forward to another 'The Shining', turned on all the lights and hunkered down for a good scare only to open the book and find a book of poetry. When you find a new author, whose writing, characters, and stories you thoroughly enjoy and discover they used your loyalty, it leaves a sense of betrayal that cannot be repaired. KMM did that. She wrote wonderful books, sucked in a fan base and then used us to propel her real goal. Which in my mind is writing gibberish. I believe the author, her agent, editors, and publishing house owe the original KMM fans an apology. A HUGE one. If she truly wanted to write this story, she should have done it under a psuedonym. I guarantee sales would not increase upon each release.

The first book was fantastic. The second installment was disappointing and this one has told me that I will not buy another book by this author without a thorough check to see if there is some kind of substance to the plot. She is wasting my time with this supposed story. There is no purpose to this book as there was no purpose to the 2nd one. If she is trying to create a 'series' it is clear that she is as misguided as Purdue's Ag alumni who hold fish fries with out serving fish. (she's offering stories with no story) I'm very disappointed with Moning. The only 'Fever' here is one of an angry and disappointed fan. I have loved her previous books. Some were a bit thin, but all were enjoyable. Not so with this book. Someone needs to edit her books so there is more plot. If I ever buy another of her books, it will be after it is out in paperback. She's coasting on her previous success and I'm not wasting another cent on her future books.

I knew this series was 'dark', but with this book, it has become not only dark but boring. I really debated purchasing this latest installment and now feel I should have given it a pass. I've just finished the book and am beyond disappointed. Ms. Moning is a good writer, its not that the writing is poor or the story poorly crafted...its that the subject matter is so incredibly depressing. I feel like I just spent several hours reading a treatise on how to torture your heroine in every possible way while also removing anything positive from her. This story has left me irritated and depressed. It feels like a continuation of the second book, with all of the more positive aspects eliminated. Blech. I kept reading because I couldn't believe that beating her heroine into the Dublin cobblestones was all this story was going to be about...my bad. I read for entertainment. This was not entertaining to me.

I have read all of KM's books and loved all of them, except Faefever. I'm really disappointed, the story has become to long and now it's to the point of being boring. I don't think I'll buy the next Fae book in this series.

i loved, loved, loved this book! i can't believe it is getting so many poor reviews. i think maybe the people who haven't liked it just simply don't understand it. i think you have to have a vivid imagination and really enjoy paranormal/fantasy writing to get the full benefit/impact of this series. it is not setup to be a simple HEA romance; it can be dark, scary, thrilling, and hilariously funny all in one. it's a saga along the lines of the harry potter stories....you have to read the entire series to find the ultimate answers. i loved KMM's highlander books and as you read the fever series you can see where these stories spring from the highlanders. sure, it's frustrating when the books simply end with so many unanswered questions, but for me that's half the fun. hope time flies til the next installment. keep up the GREAT work, KMM!

It seem like half of the book was catch up from the first two books in the series. The story line was all over the place and the ending was absolutely the worst in any book I have ever read. I don't think I will be buying any more of these. This series has become something other than romance and paranormal, it was sad and disturbing. Not something I want to remember as good fiction.

I have read all of Karen Marie Moning's books. She is a good writer, but this book is so depressing. The last chapter was just horrible. I waited a year for this, and it just wasn't worth it. I think I will wait until the last one is written, skip the forth, as I hope the 5th will be uplifting. I wish I had skipped this one.

I was really enjoying this series until the end of this book. Up until then the characters, setting, plotlines, and suspense were dolled out very well. Then it all came crashing down into a trashy novel ending. Seriously - gang rape? It's like the author ran out of creativity,

I truly could not believe that by BOOK THREE, there was still no real resolution to any of the plot basics. The killer is still at large, the leads have not moved in any true romantic direction and the "bad guys" just continue to pillage and plunder. This book is simply and extension of book two with no new real twists or turns. I was so surprised as Ms Moning is a taleted writer but it appears this time she is content to produce a series with absolutely no contetnt. I love to read but I promise I will be buying no more books in this series. I think the author needs to realize that since she is tagged as a romance writer that she needs to focus on what that requires and the tag word here being ROMANCE. The degree of violence (and it is GRAPHIC) and lack of romance makes this book a complete and utter waste of time. If you look at series writers such as Christina Dodd and Cherry Adair you realize their appeal stems from storylines that continue from book to book but within the covers each story can and does stand on its own. Not so with this entire series. Come back from the dark side Ms Moning and write what you truly can do best!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I enjoyed the first 2 books of this series DarkFever and BloodFever, but this book was a total disappointment. I found the plot chaotic and depressing. The first two books had direction this one no direction with senseless scenes for example when Mac presents a birthday cake to Jericho Barnes who goes off the deep end.The main character Mac, who has grown in the first 2 books now regresses to a stupid teenager. The last scene is horrible depicting rape the reader is just left hanging for another year before the next installment is published. I doubt I even bother. I was an avid fan of KM and thought this series was going to be different in a good way, but as it progresses I have my doubts.

It leaves you feeling bad. Most of the book was the same old stuff without a lot of new info.
I liked the Highlander series and the other books in the Fae series, but this one was disappointing.

Yeah, there is some exciting action. Yeah, the sexual tension between Mac, Jericho and Vlane oozes from the pages. You learn some more interesting things about relics, the book, etc but NOTHING happens. The story doesn't progress beyond what has already happened.
Don't get me wrong I loved the first two books and I enjoyed most of the antics of this book until I started getting close to the end and I was like wait nothing has happened there should be more and BOOM it ends. I think that every book in series should be able to stand alone and should offer something of value, of individual merit to the series, other to kill time for the characters in the book. I think FaeFever was just killing time in order to get Mac to the next book. Not a bad read, just leaves you hanging.

After waiting close to a year to read this book I was so disappointed. I have been a loyal fan of KM's and have loved all her stories. But this book was not only depressing, but left me feeling that Mac the lead character is no more aware of her purpose in the fight to keep the unseelie from invading the human realm than she did in the first book. Heck by the third book you would think she would have more insight to Jericho Barnes than she has. I just wonder how long it will be before the 4th installment of this series will be released if it is going to be another year I doubt I bother with it.

I loved the first book--the author has created a terrific 'other' world. However, the series is getting too dark and strange for me: in book 2 Mac gets tortured, in book 3 she's gang raped. Poor Mac is probably going to develop one of those Anita-Blake-like diseases that force fictional fantasy heroines to have sex all the time. Such a shame...

I waited and waited for the newest installment in the MAC series - I even pre-ordered because the series was going so well. I'll never pre-order again in this series without some reviews for sure. I may never even read any more of this series. Without spoiling the last chapter, I'll only comment that it read like something like out of a men's story in a 'Hustler' magazine. Gross and without class...

I can't believe I waited so long to pick up this series. Dark Urban Fantasy readers, if you haven't checked this series out, do it as soon as you can, it's amazing! This apocalyptically-gritty story was both fascinating and titillating. The thin wall of reality protecting the human world from the desolate reality of the Unseelie prison is growing increasingly unstable and barely holding. If it falls, it's going to be survival of the fittest and humans are no match for the starved Unseelies, who have been denied their freedom for almost one million years. Their ferocious hunger for destruction is infinite and limitless. The impending invasion may be inevitable and unstoppable and the future has never looked so bleak for Mac. This book easily became one of my top favorites! I highly recommend this book and the entire series in order Darkfever and Bloodfever. Mac's character is growing on me more and more, and while she still mourns for the party-girl that she used to be, at least Mac has accepted her new life with courage. Jericho Barrons remains a surly enigma, and I had a feeling not much would be revealed regarding his character in book three. However, I'm expecting a snowball of change will start rolling down the hill with books four and five, and it's time to give us more on Mac and Barrons relationship than unquenched attraction. But that's just my opinion...
