Fag Rag: A Story of Kids Fighting for Equality
Hubie is just a typical kid in a small rural county in the South. But when his Social Studies teacher puts up a Gay Pride flag, Hubie and his friends are forced to confront their views on LGBTQ+ issues.
As the local Superintendent launches an investigation, the issue becomes heated in the community. Encouraged by the flag, several students come out as Queer. At the same time, homophobic reactions in the community, especially in the churches, embolden other students to harass their Queer peers. Hubie, Marco, Sandy, and their friends must directly confront this homophobia when Bradley, one of their group, comes out as Gay. Soon, two other students come out as Trans.
As Hubie and his friends struggle with their feelings will they opt for acceptance? And how can they be supportive given the increasing harassment of Queer kids in school, and a lack of support from Administration?
Things get dangerous when a group of bullies threaten to "run the fags out of our school", and Hubie, Bradley, and the others must pass through a series of incidents that test their friendship and their dedication to the ideals of freedom and equality.
Based on a true story,Fag Rag is a tale of controversy, courage, and the sacrifices that must be made for friendship.

About the Author

A former public school teacher, Richard Marion Johnson once posted a Gay Pride Flag in his classroom. His first book, Fag Rag, is a loosely based fictionalized account of subsequent events.
Richard has worked as a Warrant Issuing Magistrate, construction worker, educational consultant to the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, and truck driver.
He now spends his time writing, reading, working in his wife's garden, blogging on Substack, and maintaining a Little Banned Book Library across the street from a high school.
