Overview

Fairy diddle is a local term used in the Appalachian Mountains for a small, nocturnal flying squirrel which is hard to see because it moves so fast and can become quite the pest if it takes up residence in the surroundings of a home. This term may have been applied to the hyperactive movements of small children which can also become annoying to the adults around them.

About the Author

Karen Peters is a retired high school English teacher who also taught creative writing. She wrote “Fairy Diddle” in response to a challenge by her students to prove that their assignment to write an original fairy tale was not an impossible assignment. When they listened to her story, they quit grumbling and wrote some very interesting tales!

Alyssa Rose is an Appalachian-based children’s book illustrator. She loves creating charming and whimsical artwork for children’s books. Her passion for creating children’s Illustrations grew from her two children.
