Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
For decades, Cicely Mary Barker added an ethereal dimension to the lives of readers with her exquisite paintings of fairies. This colorful Flower Fairy Journal, which is published here for the first time, introduces new readers to her rare artistry.
Publishers Weekly
Bursting with glorious watercolors painted by Cicely Mary Barker in the early 20th century, Fairyopolis: A Flower Fairies Journal is a facsimile scrapbook, which opens with a painting of Bartons, where Barker stayed in Storrington, England, to do some relaxing and painting (and, according to the entries here, some fairy-spotting). Across the elegant parchment-like pages readers will discover the tiny footprints of fairies, a bound-in miniature guide to the wee winged folk and-among the more earthbound souvenirs-a pass to the Storrington library, foldout map of Sussex and recipe for blackberry jam. Fans of Barker's artwork will want to pore over these elegantly designed pages, as will those who believe in fairies. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

I bought this for my daughter...

...and she totally loves this book. It is in scrapbook format and really keeps her interested. She loves fairies, so this was the perfect purchase for her. Since it is more expensive than the books that I normally give her, this was a present.

    Not just for children!

This book is not just appealing to children - it was too gorgeous for me, a 15 year old, to pass up! I love fairies, and this book is filled with beautiful artwork, writing, and an overall whimsical feel everyone can enjoy.

    Awesome Book

This book is great, my girfriend and I were looking at it at the book store, and she fell inlove with it. I think its a book for older ages as well as younger. Some people are still a kid at heart. I bought the book for her for Valentine's Day,...Shhhh don't tell her! :)

Age 4 to 8? It's written in script.

My ten year old niece loves this - but it is 'handwriting' that would be difficult for a younger child to read. Her Great Grandmother, 88, also loves this book!

    The Ultimate Flower Fairies Album

This coffee table sized book is like a scrapbook/album/encyclopedia of the Mary Cicely Barker Flower Fairies. Beautiful, updated presentation with traditional artwork and fun little surprises worked in. Little pockets, tabs and envelopes to play with. I'm 46 and I love it! Anyone who grew up with these flower fairies will enjoy this book!
