Great concept but hard to follow and too wordy

It is missing a proper discription... so, I'll write a quick one and hope it posts. This story takes place in a land far, far away where fairy tales actually happened once upon a time. A young boy auditions for a part in a staged folktake, hoping to make a better life for his sick mother. He ends up in a world of intrigue, subterfuge, and murder. Can he and his best friend solve the mystery, or will they become the next victims?

I really enjoyed this book!  It was an amusing fantasy/mystery with an original concept and good plot.
