Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Miranda McClain
Faith has never pictured herself as a cheerleader. She certainly does not fit the typical cheerleader stereotype. She's not outgoing or perky in the slightest. In fact, Faith is shy and hates being the center of attention. But her new best friend Gaby had convinced her to try out for the squad and Faith has found herself as a part of the team. Now, Faith and Gaby, and the rest of the squad from Greenview Middle School, are on their way to cheer camp, meaning three days full of practicing stunts, learning new cheers, and good, old fashioned girl bonding. It should be loads of fun, but Ella, the squad snob has it in for Faith and is determined to humiliate her in front of the entire camp. Luckily for Faith, she has some good friends who stand by her and helping her land on her feet. The team manages to pull it together, knocking the judges' socks off in the final competition. But do they have what it takes to beat their rival school and bring home the trophy? Readers familiar with the world of cheerleading will thoroughly enjoy this upbeat book about friendship, teamwork, and perseverance. Jones adds plenty of information to clue in those who have yet to be bitten by the pep squad bug. Though the ending left a bit to be desired, there is additional content following the story that is both entertaining and educational, including a fun quiz and some thoughts from Faith. Part of the "Team Cheer" series. Reviewer: Miranda McClain
