Faith, Love, and Devotion: Book One

Reeling from the recent death of his wife, police officer Evan Cerelli looks at his four children and can only see how he fails them. His loving wife was the caretaker and nurturer, and now the single father feels himself being crushed by the pain of loss and the heavy responsibility of raising his kids.

At the urging of his partner, Evan celebrates a coworker’s retirement and meets disgraced former cop turned security consultant Matt Haight. A friendship born out of loneliness and the solace of the bottle turns out to be exactly what they both need.

The past year has been a slow death for Matt Haight. Ostracized from his beloved police force, facing middle age and perpetual loneliness, Matt sees only a black hole where his future should be. When he discovers another lost soul in Evan, some of the pieces he thought he lost start to fall back in place. Their friendship turns into something deeper, but love is the last thing either man expected, and both of them struggle to reconcile their new and overwhelming feelings for one another.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Devastated by the death of his wife and childhood sweetheart, New York City detective Evan Cerelli finds a drinking buddy in former cop Matt Haight. As the two men drown their sorrows, they grow closer and soon find themselves making time for each other outside of the bar. Neither man knows how to negotiate this new relationship or how to handle the implications for their careers and Evan's children. This romance features two protagonists in midlife; each has regrets and sorrows that they must resolve if they want to accept this chance at love. Emotionally more resonant and complex than some offerings, this novel also has good supporting characters who help root this story in reality. — "Bodice Rippers Without the Bodice", Booksmack!, 12/16/10.

    Love this book

Evan's a cop. Matt's an ex-cop. As far as either one of them knows, they're both straight. Evan's a recent widower with four kids, Matt's a serial dater. They get introduced at a bar through cop friends and innocently enough become friends themselves.

It's not long though before that easy friendship becomes sexual chemistry. The only question is, where do they go from there?

I loved this book. Ms Michael's writing style is amazing. It's her first print book, but I'm buying everything else she puts out. She hooks you from the first word. Dragged into the book, you won't put it down until you've read the whole thing. This book is a keeper, it's a feel good, have to read it on a rainy day story, and the 2nd book is coming out soon (Jim's story)! Get this book, you'll love it!
