Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
* In this collection of first-person accounts, doctor and author Siegel (Love, Medicine, and Miracles) brings together almost three dozen cancer patients (or close relations of) to share their stories and the lessons they’ve learned. Many entries tackle the moment of diagnosis (the first, from survivor Angela Passidomo Trafford, opens with the line, “How many times do I have to have cancer?!”), while others pick up at the moment the diagnosis first hits home; still others focus on the end, like Ann Martin Bowler, whose sick brother passed days after a reinvigorating near-death experience. Lynn Zeller contributes a list of the “eight practices” she discovered through cancer that have led to a “wonderfully expanded experience of life” (including a focus on gratitude, mindfulness, and the idea that the universe “is in a conspiracy for my good”); Edwina Ford focuses on her afflicted husband’s admiration, and efforts on behalf, of Lance Armstrong’s post-surgery Tour de France comeback. For each piece, Siegel provides a reflection and a moral (“Life’s difficulties are what teach us to grow”) that clarify and encourage. Anyone struggling with cancer will find many relatable voices and, in Siegel, a compassionate expert commentator. (Apr.) (Publishers Weekly, April 20, 2009)

    Inspirational

The thought of cancer strikes fear into the hearts of most people. Yet many who have gone through the process of healing have found that the cancer taught them something important about themselves that they needed to discover. Dr. Bernie Siegel has compiled some of these inspiring stories of survivors and caregivers of cancer patients in faith, hope & healing.

Broken down into three sections - faith, hope and healing - people who have gone through the process of dealing with cancer in themselves or loved ones share their stories. After each, Dr. Siegel shares his thoughts on how they may have helped or hindered their journey through recovery.

Dr. Siegel is one of the pioneers in using words and thoughts to facilitate healing, and knows how powerful an inspiring message can be for someone who's still in the midst of recovery. In reading these wonderfully uplifting true stories, you'll find some of the faith and hope that others discovered, which may help in your own healing process.

Not just for cancer patients and survivors

I found this book uplifting. I picked it up whenever I needed an adjustment in my outlook. I like Siegel's perspective regarding cancer and healing. The stories are varied and appealing.

Don't miss Bernie's wonderful new book!

This book is a must for anyone newly diagnosed with cancer or any other life-threatening condition. It gives the reader hope for the future and the knowledge that you are capable of healing yourself with the help of faith and hope and the love of yourself, family and friends. I know. I wrote one of the chapters and I am here 19-years later because of Bernie's love and guidance!
