About the Author

Elizabeth Anscombe was one of the leading philosophers of the twentieth century, studying and teaching at both Oxford and Cambridge. In 1970 she was made a professor of philosophy at Cambridge, accepting the chair previously held by her mentor and friend Ludwig Wittgenstein, at whose request she translated various of his works into English.
