Overview

Faith Evans knows the value of devotion as well as its ugly flip side -- betrayal. Once a pawn in the East Coast/West Coast hip-hop feud that led to the death of her estranged husband, the late Notorious B.I.G., in 2001, Evans is enjoying a new life as a mother and devoted wife. While we wish her well, it's an R&B truism that the best art often emerges from heartache, and on her third album, Faithfully, hip-hop soul's other queen sounds most resolutely groovy on songs about love that's gone south. Over a trunkload of head-nodding bass, Evans disses and dismisses a selfish boyfriend on cuts such as "Alone in His World" and "You Gets No Love." And in a chest-thumping duet with Carl Thomas, "Can't Believe," the songbird once again makes breaking up sound so damn funky. When the first lady of Bad Boy sings about love gone right, however, she succumbs to the cheesiest extremes of contemporary R&B. For example, the obligatory Neptunes-produced joint "Burnin' Up" sounds like a throwaway meant for their less vocally gifted protégée Kelis. Instead, sister-girl's churchy vocals seem better suited to the down-tempo rhythms of songs such as the flute-infused "Do Your Time" and the jazzy, Jill Scott-esque "Love Can't Hide." On both tracks, the diva wails about the speed bumps she's encountered along the freeway of love, and the strong belief that has enabled her to keep on movin'. In fact, as Evans proved in real life, with a little faith, real love can prosper. But for the many more jilted lovers of the world, Faith the artist will provide plenty of soulful solace.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Given Faith Evans' somewhat spotty track record and Puff Daddy/P. Diddy's slippage since his name change, it might have made some sense to greet Evans' third album, Faithfully, with a bit of skepticism. As it turns out, such doubts were unwarranted, since this is her grittiest, funkiest, best record to date. There are so many collaborators on each track and so many producers -- usually around five songwriters for each track (but if a song is sampled, as many as 14 writers are credited) -- that it seems a minor miracle that it holds together at all, but Faithfully gels better than any previous Faith Evans record, in large part because so much of it is devoted to hard-edged, funky dance numbers, whether it's hip-hop-influenced cuts like "Alone in This World" or the wonderful neo-disco "Back to Love." This switch from her previous album, which emphasized ballads and mid-tempo grooves, gives the album more character, since the dance numbers mix well with the sultrier numbers and they both work equally well. If the album is hurt by anything, it's its length -- like most modern hip-hop-related albums, it runs too long -- but it is rich with vibrant songs, lively production, and Evans' best singing to date on what ultimately is not just her best album, but another excellent female urban R&B album in a year overflowing with them.
Billboard
Missing in solo action since 1998's Keep the Faith,Evans wraps her gospel-trained chops around a mix of R&B-, hip-hop-, and jazz-flavored party jams, midtempo grooves, and ballads, making it a much stronger project than her previous outing. Gail Mitchell

BEAUTIFUL that what comes to mind in this R&B classic CD exceptional.Faith's voice has evolved into a soulful sound that makes you go ooooh! Since her stunning debut in 1995 with 'Faith' which went platinum quickly she has been making strides in the music world. Her second album however was a spiritual journey that most people did not understand (how could'nt they ,they knew the Faith Evans story so it should not come as a surprise!)With this album Faith is back with beautiful songs like 'Alone in this world','Faithfully','Faithful' which tome reminds me of Mary J Blige's PMS and the hit single 'You gets no Love'And also it is a fact that Faith Evans has always given Mary some Competition so get the album it's worth it!

WHAT CAN I SAY THIS ALBUM IS OUTSTANDING !!!

This album is very different from the faith style. Now I am very open to different styles but this whole album has club beats which sound very identical and the words lack emotion, minus the singles out on the radio. Faith is not putting her best voice forward. This was a very disappointing album to say the least.

Faith Evans (Th Diamond Diva With Clout) really oudid herself on this third album ''Faithfully''. This one is her best and she really has matured musically. I would really suggest this album to everyone bcause I promise you will not be dissapointed. It's very different for Faith, but I think she took it to the next level (musically) and I really can see Faith being the next Patti Labelle. Besides, she looks INCREDIBLE with her new look and style. Go Faith!

Just in time for the holiday season, Bad Boy's First Lady blesses us with a masterpiece. Faithfully, the third and best album from Faith Evans is a classic. Music that will penetrate and permeate the soil of your heart. Faith intimately expresses her love on the highlight of the album, I Love You. Other notable songs include the jazzy Love Can't Hide and Where We Stand. Faith Evans takes us Back To Love, a retro-esque song that samples the bass line of Indeep's Last Night A DJ Saved My Life. One will be inspired after listening to the uplifting Heaven Only Knows. Overall, Faithfully takes Faith Evans to the pinnacle of music. She has clearly done her homework in respects to her latest effort, and now it's time to reap the harvest. The fruits of her labor will result in what she so Faithfully prepared for. You will not be dissapointed only left wanting more from this ''Diamond Diva With Clout.''

Ok, when I first heard the CD I was like no, where are the balads, then as soon as I opened my ears to really listen to the banging beats of ''Back to Love'', ''Alone in the World'', and ''Faithfully'' I was impressed with Faith's transformation into a Hip-Hop R&B Queen of Soul. This Album is an excellent addition to her collection. Check out the tune ''Brand New Man'' It is a classy rebutal to Lil Kim song to Biggie Smalls..Buy this CD.

I believe Faith was pouring her heart out in this CD. She is still maintaining the love vibe as well as the nod ya' head songs. I truly recommend this for any R&B/hip-hop fan's CD collection. This is an excellent CD.

This is my first time purchasing a Faith Evans CD. I've always loved the singles that played on the radio, but as a male listener I didn't relate to the subject matter. I still don't.This is the year for female R&B singers, so I finally gave in. This album is fun to listen to and the production, although sample heavy, is rich and her vocals were excellent. She seems to be Mary J's closest competetition. Definetly worth getting!

R&B diva Faith Evans 3rd release - and her best work to date - Faithfully showcases her natural vocal talent and her credible production, writing, and arranging skills. Lead single You Gets No Love is a funky, bass-driven track which doesn't stop short of strong vocals and a funky danceable beat. Second single I Love You once again proves that none other than Faith can rock a ballad. Her earthy, strong 2nd sorprano is traded for a high yet delicate vocal tone in a track co-written by J-Lo. Other standouts include the Faithful Interlude, Heaven Only Knows, and Don't Cry. Faithfully is an excellent mix of R&B, Gospel, Jazz, and Hip-Hop and flows smoothly throughout the 18 well-delivered tracks. Treat yourself to a copy of Faith Evans' Faithfully and enjoy.

She's constantly expanding and growing as an artist. Faith Evans has not been a name to mainstream artists but those of us who follow her work know what she is capable of gospel, ''Crown'' featured on Natalie Wilson & SOP Chorale's critically acclaimed cd. Soul, ''Right Back Where I Started From'' on the Iyanla Vanzant cd ''In The Meantime'' and slow scorching ballads, ''Never Gonna Let You Go'' from her own platinum ''Keep The Faith.'' She has always personified strength and class and so on ''Faithfully'' she demands all to take notice. For so long she has been a quiet storm, slowly cascading over today's soul music. Now with her youthful ''You Gets No Love'' she shows she's every bit of hip-hop/soul on ''Love Can't Hide'' she conquers Neo-Soul and ''Where We Stand'' she grips jazz and hip-hop in the clutches of her voice and makes the listener feel exactly what she is saying. Faith has always been intimate and inviting and her core audience knows what she's capable of. Now it's time for the rest of the world to take notice and realize this premeir talent!

Faith Evans shines brighter than the best with her 3rd album, Faithfully. Her gospel-drenched, velvety smooth voice makes its presence in both lead and backgound vocals, and in a rapping scheme in the first single ''You Gets No Love.'' Evans, and husband/manager Todd Russaw, co-produced the album and she co-wrote on all 18 tracks. Standouts include the 2nd single ''I Love You,'' ''Brand New Man,'' ''Heaven Only Knows,'' and ''Do Your Time.'' Faithfully exemplifies a non-traditional blend of Soul, Gospel, Jazz, and Hip-Hop together in the year's finest R&B album and Evans' finest work to date.

I have been a fan of Faith since she was singing the hook with Mary J. for Biggie's One More Chance. I am impressed with the growth and maturity she displays vocally on this album. Faith is AMAZING!! She is so much more versatile than I ever imagined. Her voice is so sweet and pure, yet passionate and emotional........pure beauty!! Get out the way Mary.....your reign has come to an end!!

In my opinion, the first album is a classic, but this one is hot too! I love the beats that were used on this album! The interludes are so incredible that I wish she would've just kept on singing! I especially love the ''Everything'' interlude. I'm so happy to have a third Faith album in my collection. I hope that a lot of the songs on this album become singles. This album makes you wanna dance! Faith is my favorite singer, and as a dedicated fan, I'm looking forward to each album that she releases during her musical career! The First Lady of Bad Boy has done it again!
