Overview

HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO TO REDEEM YOUR PAST?

Kendra Shaw was once a rising star on the counterterrorism circuit. A brilliant operative who specialised in finding, fixing and finishing threats all around the world. But after a harrowing mission goes wrong, the pressure becomes too much for her to take, and she suffers a nervous breakdown.

Now disgraced and suspended from duty, Kendra is sent back home, where she spends months recovering from the trauma. She thinks she is out of the game.

But any peace is short-lived.

One afternoon, on a busy street corner, Kendra spots a familiar face from her past. Ryan Hosseini -- the lover she left behind years ago when she decided to serve her country.

Wrestling with old regrets, she is about to approach him when she realises that he isn't alone. A surveillance team is hovering close by. Affiliation unknown. Intention unknown. And before Kendra can make sense of the situation, a bomb detonates and rips through the lunchtime crowd. And amidst the fire and rubble, Ryan vanishes.

Now Kendra finds herself on the hunt once more. Searching the city. Determined to uncover the truth. Is Ryan a victim of circumstance? Or is he a home-grown terrorist on the verge of unleashing an even deadlier attack?

Can I give this book more stars? I couldn't put this book down until I found out what happened. From the moment I started reading Fallen Angel, the author had me hooked. And it was his plot twists and back story that reeled me in. Having read the other reviews, I expected this book to be good, but it really blew me away! The author has a unique way of telling a story and developing characters that the reader is able to engage with on another level, one where the connection is so strong, the reader will often get pulled right into the plot. That's what happened to me and there was no way I was going to put this book down until the very end. I found the book to be very well written and with some really good characters. The story itself wasn't different, but the way John Ling writes is, he is a brilliant author and one whom I want to read more of. If you need some pool-side reading, get this book. You won't regret it and you might end up having a new favorite author, I know I did!

This was a very interesting book.  I read in one review that the author's style was that of James Patterson, and I found that after reading the story, I have to agree.  The chapters are perfect in length, and gave me some decent stopping points in a story, I otherwise, had a hard time putting down.  The character development and interactions were spot on, and the writing was very good.  A well deserved five stars from me.

Fallen Angel will reel readers in straight from the beginning with sheer excitement. It's mysterious, suspenseful and will keep one flipping the pages feverishly with anticipation of what could possibly happen next. Ling's novel also poses many questions in the first few chapters which grasps, and holds readers' interest right away. As the plot thickens, you'll find yourself gripping the book so tightly, your knuckles will turn white. Reminiscent to James Patterson's works, the author portrays his writing gift aggressively throughout, and it doesn't quit until the jaw-dropping, astonishing finish.

We find ourselves getting into the adventures of Kendra Shaw, as she comes back from the war and finds herself in Auckland but still unwittingly thinking that her environment is still that of Baghdad.

I am a big fan of the author's style of short sentences, short paragraphs and short chapters, as personally that kept my attention focused. The language used was descriptive yet simple, and there is a lot of action to keep the story going!

As you read the book, you just cant help it but be on Kendra's side, cheering the heroin on. I am just so impressed by the action, and the situations that she got into and how she handled them. It really is a great read!
