Given the cinematic sweep of Evanescence's sound, it's not surprising that they've garnered attention in Hollywood -- the producers of the Marvel Comics–inspired film Daredevil included two Evanescence songs on the movie's soundtrack: "My Immortal" and the propulsive single "Bring Me to Life." There's a gauzy vagueness at play in the band's sound, one that allows for surreptitious segues from sweet to sour and dark to light. Clearly influenced by bands like the Cocteau Twins and the Sugarcubes, the Arkansas-bred quartet rely more on shading than aggression, with Amy Lee's haunting voice delving into the obscure corners of songs like "Tourniquet" and "Haunted." The layers of sound -- not so much standard riffs as textured bits of melody -- that emanate from Ben Moody's guitar beckon teasingly, then shift into post-industrial overdrive on desperate-sounding tracks like "Going Under." Breathe deep the gathering gloom.

All Music Guide - Johnny Loftus
Fallen is the major-label debut of Evanescence, a Little Rock, AR-based quartet led by the soaring vocals of 20-year-old Amy Lee. Emboldened by the inclusion of its single "Bring Me to Life" on the soundtrack to the hit film Daredevil, Fallen debuted at an impressive number seven on Billboard's Top 40. But "Bring Me to Life" is a bit misleading. A flawless slice of Linkin Park-style anguish pop, it's actually a duet between Lee and 12 Stones' Paul McCoy. In fact, almost half of Fallen's 11 songs are piano-driven ballads that suggest Tori Amos if she wore too much mascara and recorded for the Projekt label. The other half of the album does include flashes of the single's PG-rated nu-metal ("Everybody's Fool," "Going Under"). But it's the symphonic goth rock of groups like Type O Negative that influences most of Fallen. Ethereal synths float above Ben Moody's crunching guitar in "Haunted," while "Whisper" even features apocalyptic strings and a scary chorus of Latin voices right out of "Carmina Burana." "Tourniquet" is an anguished, urgent rocker driven by chugging guitars and spiraling synths, with brooding lyrics that reference Evanescence's Christian values: "Am I too lost to be saved?/Am I too lost?/My God! My tourniquet/Return to me salvation." The song is Fallen's emotional center point and defines the band's sound.
Rolling Stone - Kirk Miller
Fallen [has] a creepy spiritual tinge that the new-metal boys lack.

Evanescences debut studio album Fallen opens with the aggressive rock track Going Under. This songs pure determination is driven by Lees emotion combined with chugging guitar riffs. This powerful opener leads into debut single Bring Me to Life. A delicate piano intro creates a solemn atmosphere which ultimately gets torn apart by the bands trademark gothic intensity. Paul McCoys contribution gives this song a nu metal flavour. To contrast this explosive start are the ballads of the record. The despairing My Immortal captivates via Lees haunting voice interplaying with a sorrowful piano melody. The piano is also prominent in Hello, a chilling portrayal of a childs mind which unsettles as Lee solemnly delivers a beautiful vocal performance. The two heavier tracks on Fallen are the anguished centerpiece Tourniquet which soars to a more spiritual level and the imposing Haunted with Moodys superb guitar work overlapping an eerie choir. In Everybodys Fool a different underlying theme is conveyed. Lee attacks the celebrities we idolise today by venting anger through her art. The Millennium Choir adds gothic depth to her message. Evanescence eventually slips into a dream world of paper flowers and candy clouds in the enchanting Imaginary. Wonderful lyrics linger over a hopeful melody resulting in a pleasant escape from the surrounding darkness. This escapism doesnt last long however as lost love and obsession consume in the heavy, passionate Taking Over Me. The album begins to close with the poignant My Last Breath where Lee declares acceptance of death. Following this acceptance, a grand finale occurs in the cataclysmic Whisper. As Fallen fades away with haunting Latin vocals, take a deep breath and reflect on this emotional masterpiece. A+

I heard 'Bring me to Life' on the radio. I did't know it was her!! I looked it up and fell in love! Her songs are a little on the darker side but they are realistic adn may be some people go through everyday. Her voice is beautiful and full. Evanescence is the best ever!

Remember that movie called "Daredevil"? Remember hearing a song about bringing someone to life? Hence, you just heard the smash hit song, "Bring Me to Life", by one of the best American contemporary rock bands named Evanescence. Amy Lee is the amazing lead vocalist to this talented band, which had been in the mix of being identified as a Christian-based band, but their dark themes and tones, as well as other unclear controversy, eliminated such an inappropriate classification for the band. Therefore, they became a popular secular alternative rock band originally from Arkansas. "Fallen" is unequivocally one of my favorite rock albums in my diverse collection of personal music. Best songs include "Bring Me to Life", "Everybody's Fool", "Tourniquet", and "My Immortal". Every true rock fans needs this brilliant album in his or her music collection!

It is as stated above. Evanescence's lead singer, Amy Lee, has the best vocals I have ever heard and the entire band sounds GREAT! Fallen is a idea CD, because the entire thing sounds great; not one song I did not like on this CD. You can find a beautiful song called Broken on The Punisher soundtrack that is a duet between Amy Lee and Seether. The tone goes from soft pianos (My Immortal) to heavy guitars (My Tourniquet) to a combination of the two (Bring Me To Life.)

I was tired of it after the overplayed tunes on the radio, and after listening to the rest of the album, it sounds like the same song over and over. It is annoying!! Someone said the guitar was ho-hum, and they're right! Wake up people! Her voice starts soundling like a whining cat line after line, over and over, the same sound.

I remember first hearing the “Fallen” cd by Evanescence around 2003. I was stationed in Japan, living on a ship, and hearing “Bring Me To Life” countless times by a coworker who seemed to be a fanatic of Evanescence. Needless to say, when I returned stateside, “Bring Me To Life” grew on me and my interest piqued even more when I heard more of Evanescence’s songs on the radio. Fortunately, my husband bought this cd the same year it came out so there was no need for me to purchase the cd. I can really say that every song on this cd is good. However, my personal favorites are “Everybody’s Fool”, “My Immortal”, “Haunted”,“Imaginary”, “Taking Over”, and “My Last Breath”. “Fallen” by Evanescence is best for those who like gothic rock, alternative rock, and/or at least four Evanescence songs.
