NAMED THE BEST ROMANCE NOVELLA OF THE YEAR BY BOOK JUNKIE’S CHOICE AWARDS

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Toni Aleo’s sexy eBook original novella featuring the Nashville Assassins will have you believing in the power of love at first sight . . . and second sight . . . and third.

After serving as a dutiful bridesmaid in the wedding from hell, Aynslee Shaw just wants to slink home to Nashville and forget the whole trip. That is until the hottest guy she’s ever seen is seated next to her on the flight and charms her with his easy laugh and killer smile. But just when she thinks things are getting good, he vanishes, leaving Aynslee wondering, was that guy the one? And did she just let him slip through her fingers?

Former superstar goalie Jordan Ryan is back on the ice—finally. After a crippling knee injury that had him wondering if he’d ever play pro hockey again, he’s got his full attention on rebuilding his career. So a pretty—okay, beautiful—girl on a plane shouldn’t be a distraction. But Jordan is very, very distracted. And when Aynslee crosses his path again, he’s not sure any job in the world is worth missing his second chance with a woman like her.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Jordan Ryan is the backup goalie for the Nashville Assassins hockey team, and for the sake of his career he needs to get traded to a team that will put him in front of the goal full-time. Aynslee Shaw is the woman who restores his confidence after he is sidelined with a knee injury (and his fiancé kicks him to the curb because he is no longer a first-string player). But Jordan thinks he can’t take Aynslee away from the life she’s made in Nashville, and she thinks he doesn’t love her enough to take her with him. Falling for the Backup is a short, sweet, and sexy romance between two people who seem to be able to tell each other everything, except that neither can imagine a future without the other. Unfortunately, they’ve gone into this relationship knowing that it might have an expiration date.

Verdict The explosive chemistry between these two protagonists will make readers reach for a fan; the happily ever after will bring a smile to their faces. Though this is Book 3.5 in Aleo’s “Assassins” series, it can be read as a stand-alone introduction to the team.—Marlene Harris, Seattle P.L.

    Loved It!!

This Novella is Book 4 of the Assassins Series... But, read this series in order because there is much "building" between the books and the characters continue throughout... Book #1 Taking Shots, #2 Trying to Score, #3 Empty Net and Book #5 Blue Lines... Loved all five of these offerings and read them all in three days... Lots of smiles and a few tears but well worth the reading... Lots of human emotion, well written and unique story lines... Loved the characters...

This novella is about Jordan and Aynslee. This story made me kind of sad because it's about a player that wants to transfer to a different teams but no because he doesn't love playing for the Assassins. He was the starting goalie, then got injured and now he's the backup goalie. He wants to be a starter again. One more thing that complicates things for Jordan and is the beautiful, red haired Irish girl, Aynslee Shaw. Will he have to leave her behind if he gets his transfer?

I just love to see all these big strong hockey players fall hard for their women. Great story! I just can't seem to get enough of Toni Aleo's The Assassins series. Looking forward to the next book in this sizzling hot series about sexy hockey players.

    Good story-no ending

Even though this book was short, I was disappointed with the ending. "And they lived happily ever after" Seriously, you couldn't do better ?. Story had so much more potential. I still love Toni Aleo's writing.

    Too short

The story starts out very good. Pulls you in to Jordan and Aynslee's story quickly. Well written until the end. The story is only 88 pages long. The reason for only 3 stars is the ending: "And they lived happily ever after". Toni Aleo could have added 5 - 10 more pages given the story a better ending.

Terrific as is all the Nashville Assassin series is! Ms. Aleo's description of hockey is spot on and her characters and their relationships are so engaging that I never fail to start her books and then end up reading far, far into the night because I can never set it back down! I truly enjoy the couple's of hockey and can't wait to read the next book!

Aynslee is having a bad day, when she gets on the plane to go home and notices the hottie next to her, her day changes. Jordan’s life is in disarray, he hurt his knee and has been the backup on his team ever since. When the gorgeous Aynslee sits next to him he wants to talk to her but his confidence is shaky and he doesn't want to start something when he could be moving. A couple chance meetings later and the two of them start a whirlwind romance that could leave both of them heartbroken if Jordan has to leave. I loved this book, Jordan was a hot hockey player and he worked really hard to find a way to stay with Aynslee. Aynslee was a confident woman and she went for what she wanted. Their relationship was sweet and easy, I really like how the two of them could have silly conversations. The sex scenes in this book were fan your face hot. There were unexpected moments of humor that had me laughing so hard tears were coming out my eyes. Falling For the Backup was a really good book and I am completely addicted to this author and the series.
