Overview

Lambert Falls, North Carolina, is a small Southern town where the past and present effortlessly mingle. Here, the pace is sweet and tranquil--but life can still offer up its share of surprises. . .

After years in the military, Chris Montgomery is looking for somewhere to relax and recharge, and Lambert Falls, with its tree-lined streets and picturesque town square, seems ideal. Chris expected that a stranger in town would attract suspicion and gossip. He didn't expect to meet someone like Angie Kane, with her warm, open smile and self-contained air that are instantly intriguing.

Angie has built a satisfying life for herself, one she's not willing to uproot for someone who's just passing through. But Chris is quietly persistent--not to mention handsome and charming. Against her own better judgment, Angie finds herself falling deeper than she ever intended--until one phone call forces her to choose between the town she's always loved, and a man she can't imagine living without. . .

A very good book with suspense to the end

Pauline Trent has written a very good first novel. The characters are interesting as is the small town of Lambert, NC. and its inhabitants. The plot leaves the reader in suspense until the very last page when there is a bit of a philosophical ending.

Fall in love with the characters!

What I love most about this book are the characters. They are so easy to relate to and are so real! None of the characters seem out of reach nor do they come across as being flat. They are all intriguing in their own way and even the minor characters have been fleshed out to become someone recognizable. And I agree with the other reviewer about Ms. Trent's ability to write both male and female characters and and accurately portray their differing thoughts of the same event. I, too, hope to read more about Lambert Falls, NC. Even to learn more about some of the side characters, such as the Jones sisters. This is a great first novel and I'm looking forward to reading much more by Pauline Trent.

    I Also Recommend:

    Great story with real characters

I enjoyed how the author was able to get how both men and women think about the same event differently.
Angie's reactions to her assumptions about Chris were not only interesting but likely. I felt her pain when she thought that Chris liked her sister because Carter Anne seemed more the city than Angie.
I picked this up to fill some time on a trip and was really impressed with the story about real people.
I hope that there will be some more about the people of Lambert Falls soon.
Thanks

Gentle, Tender, Romantic - Fall in Love for the First Time, Small-Town Style

I hate to be a spoiler, so I won't say anything more lest I let something slip, but the headline says it all. Escapism at a time when a stressed, lonely girl needed it most, this debut romance left me eager to see what Ms. Trent has in store for us next. She can only get better, and that's a thought to make me grin with anticipation!
