Overview

The beginning of the emotionally charged and highly erotic contemporary romance Surrender trilogy, in which love and trust are the most dangerous games of all…

With a dark past that would have shattered most people, Evelyn “Scout” Keats is doing what no one in her bleak world thinks possible—getting off the streets and leaving her impoverished life behind. She’s a new maid at the luxurious Patras Hotel and aims to keep her job no matter what. But that doesn’t mean she’s going to sacrifice her dignity, or let anyone into her heart. The risk of losing either is just too great.

When hotel tycoon Lucian Patras discovers Evelyn in a compromising position, he uses everything at his disposal to seduce her—a proposition that both surprises and frightens her.

Ignorant to her true circumstances, Lucian relentlessly pursues Scout as a prize to be won. But he is soon given an unforgettable lesson in love and sacrifice when he learns how far Scout has gone to gain her independence and discovers that there are some things money can never buy.

Falling In is not just another rich man meets girl story. Evelyn Scout Keats starts with nothing but hardships. Lucian Patras is a man that knows what he wants and strives to get it.This story made me lose track of time and sucked me in. Lydia Michaels has written some characters I have had similarities with. Even though I have not had the misfortune of being homeless, Ms. Michaels still put me right in the story with Scout.Lucian is the perfect mix of book boyfriend material. Alpha but romantic, confident with just a smidge of cocky. Sure there are times he isn't perfect but he is worth it.

I cannot wait for Breaking Out!

This is the first book of the Surrender Trilogy, and I can’t wait for the next two. This story grabs you from the beginning. It takes you on a journey, which other romance novels haven’t taken.  There’s homelessness, drug addictions/abuse, love, friendship, betrayal and ruthless handlings.  Falling In has a substantial story, with exciting love scenes.  Lucian is the Über sex god, and Scout his reluctant queen, Parker who is Scout’s best friend with a mysterious past. This book was captivating, I couldn't put it down, it was beautifully written. I can’t wait till the next book comes out, to see where the author takes us.

Falling In is a part of the Surrender Trilogy and is the first book in the series. I am glad I started at the beginning because I can't imagine trying to begin the next book at the mid point of where it semi ended. Although there technically was a decent ending there are quite a few hooks in the story left open so I'm assuming those are carried over into book two. Falling In for me really felt like a mix of the movies Maid in Manhattan and Pretty Woman without the prostitution or the kid. Its a great story, I really enjoyed both the main characters Evelyn and Lucian and I really enjoyed them as a combo double punch because they play off eachother so well. I liked getting to see Lucian "wake up" so to speak and I really liked getting to see Evelyn as she finds her way from the streets to finding her way through life and love.

    Falling In by Lydia Michaels

Falling In is the first book in Lydia Michaels' Surrender Trilogy. Readers who are looking for a novel that has a smidgen of dominance, lots of hot steamy moments and a bit more depth than you'd expect, will love this one! Michaels' is out to prove that writing an erotic novel doesn't have to be all about the sex. There can be a lot of substance and heart as well. Scout Keats is a heroine readers won't soon forget and her billionaire lover is alpha to the core. A steamy first book in a series! What I liked: I like characters with strong personalities good or bad and Lydia Michaels certainly satisfied that craving with her hero and heroine in Falling In. Both Lucian and Scout leap off the pages in this book. Lucian is a strong alpha male, very dominant and somewhat of a jerk. Let's face it, most alpha's have that tendency. Scout on the other hand, has been dealt a very rough hand in life and she has risen above it. She is determined and self sufficient. She never needed anyone to take care of her before and it isn't likely she needs someone now. I loved the fact that Michaels isn't afraid to take chances with her characters. Erotic novels are often completely based on sex, but Michaels had a more character driven idea in mind and she really pulled it off. This is of course a Cinderella story. Poor girl meets a prince and lives happily ever after. Visions of Pretty Woman did appear now and then, but Michaels was able to stave off those perceptions by making the relationship between Lucian and Scout more about how they each were able to change each other. Lucian is a powerful man, who came from money. He has no idea what life on the streets is like. Scout challenges him at every turn, her views on life are so different from what he's used to and it was amazing to watch how he changed throughout the story. Scout on the other hand knows nothing of luxury and the finer things in life and seeing her blossom and realize that having good things in life doesn't make you weak was a joy to read. All that being said, this is an erotic novel. The sex scenes are lavish and very hot. These characters do dabble a little bit in the submission arena, but that part of the book does not take over the entire plot, as in real life, it has it's place. Michaels doesn't shy away from expressing exactly how strongly these two characters feel for each other. Their passion in and out of the bedroom is the driving force of the book and don't forget for a second that this book is part of trilogy or the cliffhanger will sneak up and getcha! What I didn't like: Lucian stays a jerk for most of the book and I wanted him to be a little nicer, a little more likable, earlier on in the book. As I said he is alpha to the core and I liked him in spite of his hard head. There were a few of those deja vous moments when I felt like I had read this whole scenario somewhere before, but that was more a long the lines the overused plot of poor girl/rich boy thing than anything else. Still a very good book. Bottom Line: This is an erotic novel with a lot more depth and substance than readers may be used to from this genre. It is character driven and relies on the strong personalities of the main characters to drive it. It's hot and steamy and it's heartbreaking at times. A very good start to a new series!

Gah! Totally what I needed to get me out of my reading funk. This was one of those books that was on my TBR and I signed up saying I would review it but once I read the synopsis I wasn't sure I was in the mood for the book. However, I had a time frame so I made myself read it and Squee! I am so happy I did. It was great. So not what I expected but it was so well done. It was divided into parts. Each part was a different POV which I felt gave a great balance and depth to the book.

Scout (Evelyn) just wants a job so she can climb out of the whole she was born into. She doesn't just want this job, she needs it. With a switch of plans one day she finds her self face to face with her billionaire boss. After making a mistake with her boss she fears losing her job only to have a different kind of proposition instead.

"You don't intimidate me, Lucian," she whispered brazenly. "Well, that's good. I don't want to intimidate you. I want to master you, love you so thoroughly, know you completely, in a way no one else ever has, and that doesn't happen when one feels threatened, coerced, or intimidated. I'd say we're making progress."

With Scout she is a bit of an enigma with her innocence but also her fierce street survival smarts. The moment Lucian sees Scout he wants to possess her but they are worlds apart. I wasn't sure this rags to riches story was going to work but Lydia Michaels mastered it. I was hooked in immediately with Scout and Lucian. They may be worlds apart but yet so similar in so many regards.

Scout knows she is selling a bit of herself to have the comfort of a roof over her head and a meal to have, but it's only sex and she thinks she will be able to compartmentalize these things. As Lucian pursues Scout he takes what he desires and wants to possess but what he didn't count on was taking her virtue which throws him in a loop and into uncharted territory.

"... I'll teach you anything you're interested in learning. I never want you to feel like you're less because you can't do something. Anything you want to learn, I'll teach you. Even without those skills, you're so much more than anyone else in this world."

For Lucian it is a tug and pull situation trying to find a balance to their needs and wants. As Lucian tries to get over what he took he causes Scout to run. Thinking that she deserves better he lets her go not realizing that he needs her in his life and she fills a spot in his heart that he didn't realize he needed filling till it was almost too late.

"Look at me. Evelyn. I love you and you can't put up walls between us because love scares you. Keep all your words locked in, but silence does not make your feelings any less real. ..."

Desperate to find Scout he makes a deal with the devil but worth it so he can get her back. As he has her back Lucian teaches Scout about her self and her sexuality. The more the explore the more they both fall. As they fall so did I, only to be ripped open by a cliffhanger. Argh!! Thankfully this series is complete and I will be devouring the next two immediately.

Wow!!!  This book captured me from the very first page until the very last!!!  I read it in one day, damn near one sitting!  I highly recommend you read this book.

Although is has your typical rich man and younger naive woman it is NOT your typical story.  Scout aka Evelyn is naive is sexual ways, but she is definitely not naive overall.  She has survived on the streets all of her life.  She is everything I want in a herione, spunky, determined, honest, loyal and adventurous.

Our hero, Lucian is rich and dominant, but surprisingly sweet and loving too.  I loved Lucian!  I am excited to read all the books in this trilogy and have already purchased them based on the first book.  I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, sexy romance!  ENJOY!!!

This is the first book in a three book series. The good news is all three books are out now. They are just so hot and sexy with such pain and love that you can't put them down till done. It is also such a story that you won't forget no matter how many books you read. After I finished the third book I still wanted more. Just read them.

    Ok

This book was okay. After reading the first chapter, I was expecting more depth that never came. It's standard poor young girl/ wealthy guy/ dominance storyline, with her being homeless added to the mix. I enjoyed it enough to finish, but there wasn't enough character development to want to continue the series.
