I was very impressed by this book, from beautiful images to the moving narrative. A brutal civil war crippled Sierra Leone for over a decade (1991 - 2002), a time that witnessed atrocities and senseless violence. In 2007, native Sierra Leonian and peace worker John Caulker and activist Libby Hoffman created Fambul Tok International as a way to facilitate dialogue and forgiveness among the country's fractured communities. Grassroots intervention led to reconciliation between villagers who had been torn apart due to the war, showing the extraordinary power of the Fambul Tok project. In conjunction with the publication of this book, filmmaker Sara Terry made a documentary movie, which is currently being featured at SXSW.
