On their latest live disc, Family Affair II, the Grammy Award-nominated Pastor Hezekiah Walker & the Love Fellowship Choir bless their fans with yet another stirring praise-and-worship celebration -- featuring contemporary gospel greats John P. Kee and Kim Burrell.
All Music Guide - Jonathan Widran
Great live gospel has this way of making a believer out of even a hardcore skeptic; even if the positive message takes a while to melt your heart, your toes and booty will give in long before. Great live gospel has this way of making a believer out of even a hardcore skeptic; even if the positive message takes a while to melt your heart, your toes and booty will give in long before. This disc chronicles Hezekiah Walker's happy, heartfelt troupe as they created a holy fire at the famed venue in February 2002, and is unique in that Walker -- a classic vocal powerhouse in his own right -- shares the love with other lead singers. The best of these are Kim Burrell and Heather Covington, yet he seems to save the real fun, wild, and brassy numbers those Blues Brothers backflip types for himself, à la "Any Way You Bless Me" and the opener, "We Made It." Singer Kirvy Brown also leads such a revival on "Never Gonna Let You Go." The live show is complemented by two slickly produced hip-hop/gospel studio tracks that should give Kirk Franklin a big run for his holy money.

    Family Affair???????

It was truly a pleasure to hear the revival of some of the best songs released by Pastor Walker (Tracks 2,3,4,6,7,8 and 9). I like the song "We Made It." However, the ad lib in drive gets strange. The sequence of things being said lose the even flow at one point. Heather Covington brings her signature sound on "What A Mighty God We Serve." There are times I feel nervous when you approaches the high segment of her voice, but she still leaves me content. The album has a nice flow with the exception of "Don't Wait" and "Breakthrough." I skip these tracks each time. They are too close to worldly music for my taste, but this may work for many. I was surprised by the large presence of guest artists. This is usually reminiscent of comeback artists. Hopefully, on the next FAMILY AFFAIR, we will hear more of the immediate family taking leads. I was saddened by the absence of Monique Walker both vocally and via acknowledgement in the credits. Her presence in the past was definitely an asset and should not dare be forgotten. She has a signature sound that has God's anointing flowing throughout. All in all, this album is definitely worth the investment. Nonetheless, I definitely recommend that those listeners who are not familiar with the original versions of the remakes go and secure copies of those songs.

Pastor Hez Does It Again !!!

As I sit and listening to this I must say that I can't help but to be revived! Pastor Hez does it again in only a fashion that no other can duplicate. With Pastor Kee and others this is one that you will want to listen to over and over again. What can I say. If you know anything about the "Anoiting", you will enjoy this project!!!
