"Why did the bald father paint rabbits on his head? He wanted some ‘hares' on his head." If this tickled your funny bone, Family Follies is the book for you. This collection offers around forty-five jokes united by the theme of family, including two "mummy" jokes (apparently one wasn't enough). While a few of the jokes are cute, most are not, and some don't even make sense: "Where did the family take their crying children? To the "ballpark." Shouldn't it be "bawl" park? Isn't that the joke? And here's another one with a similar problem: Mom claims she has a special tool to find her son in hide-and-seek: her "sunglasses." Doesn't she mean "songlasses"? Then there's one about the kid who put ice cubes in his aunt's bed… "to make auntifreeze." What elementary school reader even knows what antifreeze is?! The illustrations are colorful and whimsical, but neither the art nor the jokes are remotely worth the sticker price.
