Lilystar's Courage &Delta Chapter 2

I batted at my father's ears. "Papa? Where did Mama go?" I mewed, my voice innocent and sweet. He didn't answer. I clambered onto his back. "Papa..." l placed my forepaws onto his big head.
"Come down, Lilykit," my father commanded. I hopped down and trotted in a circle around him. "Where's mama? Where's mama? Where did mama go? Where's mama?" I asked impatiently.
"Lilykit!" Papa yowled. "Your mother is..." His voice trailed off. "Lilykit, would you like to meet the Clan?" he asked quietly.
l sighed. "Fine. Okay," l meowed.
Papa started to lead me around, but l pulled away. "I can meet everyone by myself!" I snapped. Papa gazed at me, his eyes dark and heavy. "Of course you can, Lilykit," he meowed quietly, giving a small nod.
l cocked my head, pondering his odd behavior, then gave up and trotted up to a black she-cat with tears in her yellow eyes. "Hi l'm Lilykit! What's your name?" I meowed.
The she-cat didn't lift her head, but her gaze slid over to meet mine. "My name is Ebonyfall. Your mother was my best friend. She was a great cat, she just made a mistake." Ebonyfall shook her head. "A very bad mistake."
l narrowed my eyes and opened my mouth to ask what my mama did, but was distracted when l saw two black kits wrestling one another. I bounded over to them. "Hi l'm Lilykit!" I meowed.
One of them rolled over the other and leapt to her paws. "Hi l'm Ashkit!" she meowed. The other one tripped over his paws and scrambled after Ashkit. "I'm Coalkit!" he mewed.
l beamed. "I'm Lilykit!" I mewed.
Coalkit waved his tail in the direction of Ebonyfall. "That's our mama," he meowed.
"She's sad," Ashkit added.
"Daddy's hunting," Coalkit meowed.
Ashkit peered at the entrance. "Not anymore," she mewed as she watched a yellow tom pad in and drop three mice into the fresh-kill pile.
Coalkit and l followed Ashkit up to their father. "Hi papa!" Ashkit and Coalkit chorused. "Hi Ashkit and Coalkit's papa!" I mewed.
The tom grinned. He briefly nuzzled his kits before turning his gaze to me. "Lilykit! You opened your eyes!" he meowed. I stared at him with a look of puzzlement. "I'm Sunclaw. I'm friends with your father," he explained. "Where's Fern?" I shrugged, and watched as he padded over to my father. Sunclaw's eyes widened slightly as they spoke in hushed voices.
l shrugged again and returned my attention to Coalkit and Ashkit. "Do you know where Fernwhisker went?" I asked.
They both shook thier heads. "Mama's pretty sad about it though," Ashkit noted. Coalkit nodded.
l eyed Foxtail. "That Foxtail said something about Mama giving birth to two dead kits," l remembered. "Mama got mad at him. I don't think she wanted me to know... Foxtail said l could have been dead to... Mama tried to hurt him. Then she had a ceremony, but neither Mama or Cloudstar seemed happy. I would be happy if l was getting a ceremony."
Coalkit gave me a small smile. "Well, l'm glad you aren't dead," he meowed.
"Me too," Ashkit added. There was a moment of silence. "Come on, let's go meet the other cats!" Ashkit leapt to her paws and bounced away. Coalkit and l followed close behind. I beamed and giggled, but thoughts of Foxtail and Fernwhisker still lurked in my mind.
&#8499idnight &diams &#8499oon,
formeroy &sect&sigma&#8467&alpha&real &#10023 &omega&iota&eta&delta
