The second edition of Family Practice Guidelines is a comprehensive resource for clinicians, presenting current national standard of care guidelines for practice, in addition to select 2011 guidelines. This clinical reference features detailed physical examination and diagnostic testing, information on health promotion, guidelines of care, dietary information, national resources for patient use, and patient education handouts all in one resource.

This revised edition features guidelines for 246 disorders, each containing clearly outlined considerations for pediatric, pregnant, and geriatric patients. It also presents 18 procedures commonly performed in the clinical setting, including bedside cystometry, hernia reduction, neurological examination, and more. Patient Teaching Guides are also provided, and are designed to be given directly to patients as take home teaching supplements. Additionally, the book contains four appendices with guidelines on normal lab values, procedures, sexual maturity stages, and teeth.

This book, originally published in 2000, has been revised and expanded to provide more information to the reader.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide differential information for both symptoms and diseases. It also serves as a quick reference providing guidelines, procedures, and patient education. This is an extremely valuable resource for both novice and experienced nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Audience: It is a wonderful book for students, novices, and experienced primary care practitioners. Both physician assistants and nurse practitioners will find it to be a frequently used reference in their professional library. The authors and contributors are all experienced practitioners.
Features: The book is well organized and extremely user-friendly, presenting the information in an outline format organized by body systems. The first section presents a wide variety of individual disorder guidelines. The second section presents procedures that are commonly performed in a primary care setting. The final section provides patient teaching materials for use in a practice setting.

Meet the Author

Jill C. Cash, MSN, APN, FNP-BC is a Family Nurse Practitioner in a Primary Care Practice in Illinois. Jill has practiced as an NP since 1996 in primary care. In addition, she taught nursing at Southeastern Illinois College (2 years), Southern Illinois University @ Edwardsville, where she taught in the FNP graduate program (3 years) and Southeast Missouri State University (4 years). Ms. Cash received an MSN in High Risk Obstetrics in 1991 as well as a Post-Master Degree in FNP and her ANCC certification as an FNP in 1996. Her professional memberships include the Am College of NPs, the National Assoc for NPs in Women's Health, The Am Academy of NPs, AWHONN and STT. She is co-author of the first edition of Family Practice Guidelines.

These guidelines are great and easy to incorporate into practice. The chapters are straight and to the point not a lot of fluff you have to read through to find what is really important. I am a new FNP and it is a great reference. It is also a plus that it is electronic, I have what I need at all times without the weight of a book. I love it.
