"Hoagland has a talent for taking us into people's hearts, allowing us to see both the bad and the good, and showing us the strength that comes only from trial. The characters in Family Size could be your neighbors or anyone from your ward. They think as we think, learn as we learn. They fail and weep, and then they dust themselves off and try again. In the end they come through for each other--and brilliantly. I very much enjoyed this novel."--Rachel Ann Nunes, Best-selling author

Enjoyed the story of these women with their different personal struggles but common goals...motherhood, faith, family. I'm a "non-denominational" Christian so I had a difficult time with the LDS beliefs woven throughout but really liked the book nonetheless. Well-written.

This book is AMAZING at bringing out the fact that we never truly know what someone else is going through...therefore....we need to be careful how we judge. It is easy to say things that can be taken wrong... And it is easy to misunderstand things that are said... We need to have unconditional love and try to see the best in others....as these three women finally do. Jessica is struggling with having a baby so close after her last one especially after finding out that the growing fetus has some complications...people question her decision to be pregnant again so soon. Maya is struggling with a husband who is gone all the time while she is trying to deal with abdominal pain...pain so strong she is has to take pain killers to even function. And on top of that people keep asking her if she is ever going to have another baby. Sloane has prayed for years and gone through many medical procedures just to have a baby...and all find out it didn't work yet again. Now she is going through the trial of adopting...and being turned down at the last minute. Will her righteous desires ever be fulfilled? What is the right family size? Can anyone make that decision for you? What if your decision isn't the decision the Lord has planned for you? Read as these women find friendship and faith through their fertility trials. A really tender read! Worth every word! This book would be PERFECT for a book club!

I related to the characters in this book on many levels. Having experienced some of the issues told in this book, I though the author did a wonderful job of describing the feelings that are associated with them. The heartache of infertility. The roller coaster of emotions that go along with not being able to have something your heart desires and aches for. Feeling as all women do at one time or another of not being good enough or being judged for things others know nothing or little about. Finally, acceptance and understanding gained through acknowledgement of others situations and how true friendship can flourish through a listening ear and an open  caring heart.  I could not put this book down. A must read!    -TXStevens
