Meet the Author

Wendy Van Horn Hauver has been a writer since the dawn of time, or at least since the first time she figured out how to put letters together to form words. At the ripe ole age of 10, she was an avid poet and her parents, Leslie and Donna, had the foresight to provide her with her first typewriter at the age of 12.

Blah, blah, blah... a long carer in writing endeavors followed... won the Phi Theta Kappa Short story award in the State of Florida for her story "Death of a Telemarketer," (she swears it was fiction)... more writing projects...

She finally resolved to do her best to pass on her ardor for the written word to the youth of today, and is currently a teacher in Pasco County, Florida. Her 6th grade students describe her as "an awesome genuis and a hard worker, who is a bit of a neat freak and very caring and generous (oh, stop, she's blushing)." Watching the social struggles of the students around her, Wendy was reminded of her own trials and tribulations in life and she was inspired to share her own story, in her own - somewhat twisted and humorous - way. Thus Fancy was born.

Wendy lives in Lutz, Florida with her family, three horribly un-cute dogs, and a pretty cool bird.

    Superb.

What can I say in words to express the emotions I felt reading this book? I think the highest praise I could give would be it was glued to my hands. I couldn't put it down. Its a quick book to read so do yourselves a favor, buy it, enjoy it, read it again and tell your friends about it. It's that good!

Great summer reading for both young adults and those that want to feel young again.

My daughter read it and insisted that I read it. Could not put it down and finished in one night. Highly recommend.

    Loved This Book!

I got this book for my 14-year old niece and she said I had to read it! I couldn't put it down--finished in one sitting. I hope there is a sequel.

    I laughed, I cried, I laughed until I peed!

As a child of the 80's, I can tell you it brought back a lot of memories! My daughter, 15 read the book, and she read it again! I think it's the only book I have ever seen her finish, let alone read twice. The girl does not like to read and she loved this book! Wendy is a quick and witty writer, and she goes right for those heartstrings. I was immediately in love with the way that Fancy thinks. When my son turns 12, I'm going to have him read it, so he's prepared for the world of predatory girls! A must read for all ages!!

Watch out for Fancy, she could be your best friend!

I remember moving to a new school and having trouble making friends. The characters in this wonderful young adult novel brought back a lot of memories of my own time in school. (Good and bad.) Best of all, the characters are so well-defined I'd swear that they were real and all friends of my own daughters! High fives for this amazing read!

    Highly recommended-mothers and daughters alike!

This was a blast from the past for me as an adult but my daughter enjoyed it as much as I did! The timelessness of those teenage years is prevalent in the cross generational appeal of young Fancy Adams. Ms. Van Horn has managed to squeeze a lot into such a quick read. Young readers will increase their vocabulary and receive a message in short time from a very rebellious main character. Fancy is a character to follow and introduce to your daughters or sons for that matter (but don't forget to enjoy her yourself). I look forward to a future filled with more from this very talented writer.
