With a young daughter, I purchase a Fancy Nancy book for nearly all gift-giving events (i.e., Christmas, birthday), so I did not care that this was an "I Can Read" book -- I was just happy to get my daughter a new Fancy Nancy book. That said, when we read the book I was extremely surprised to see it was classified as "1 - Beginning Reading". With "fancy" words such like 'distressing', 'challenging', and the title's 'spectacular', I'm not certain I would expect a beginning reader to pick this up on there own. In all - a fun book for those times when you need a 'quick read'.
