Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Summer Whiting
Fancy Nancy is at it again! Her mother's birthday is fast approaching and Nancy takes it upon herself to make her mother look beautiful for her upcoming celebratory dinner. She is treating her to an afternoon at Ooh La La! Beauty Spa (which happens to be in her own backyard). Nancy is careful to list all of the required items necessary, including pillows, towels and washcloths, and even flower petals. Pedicures, facials, manicures, and live music are all a part of Ooh La La! Beauty Spa. Fancy Nancy is even gracious enough to provide actual recipes for foot soaks and yogurt parfaits. The reader will be introduced to new vocabulary, some of it French! This is a delightful read for the girliest of girls. Moms and daughters will share laughs as they read about Fancy Nancy's attempts to beautify her own mother. The engaging illustrations begin with the cover. Glasser doesn't fail in capturing Fancy Nancy's personality in the slightest. The colors are fantastic and her artwork is sure to garner some laughs. This is priced just right. PreS-Gr 2—For her birthday, Nancy is treating her mother to all the comforts of a spa day in their backyard. After she receives a facial, manicure, pedicure, and frightening new hairstyle, Nancy calls in reinforcements (her neighbor, an honest-to-goodness beautician). In typical "Fancy Nancy" style, this installment includes a glittery cover and girly illustrations. Nancy's many fans are sure to enjoy this latest adventure and may be eager to try some of the recipes, from a soothing sea-salt foot soak to a yum yum yogurt parfait.—Lindsay Persohn, Crystal Lake Elementary, Lakeland, FL
