Overview

Part memoir, part novel, this book is the story of one Jewish boy's attempt at coming of age in a time period (1955-1968) when his whole generation is trying to do the same. Buddy Foreman's (the main character) story is one of hopefulness and humor, but also of despair and occasional meanness. Buddy works his way out of the streets of Philadelphia and off to college where he meets the love of his life, but isn't able to get past her disabilities and his own. It's a sad tale, folks, but one with some redeeming value, we hope.
