Tethyrian colonists sent to the jungle island of Chult have vanished and only their celebrated leader has returned. I Also Recommend:

Through The Window By David Townley

A heavy fog moves in, servants and solders disappear. Then Evonne, Queen Anais's sister, and all of her children but her youngest daughter Ysabel are murdered. The dwarf Amhar did it, or did he? Declan Cardew was the hero of the day or was he?
Captain Harp and his crew receive a commission from Avalor, whose daughter Liel has disappeared. Liel is Cardrew's, for political reasons, wife and Harp's unconsummated love. Harp had meet Liel when he was serving aboard a privateer. He rescued her from the clutches of the ships captain by spawning a mutiny. This landed him in prison where he had been tortured by the mysterious and diabolical Practitioner. He is finally released from prison though the efforts of Avalor. Along the way he has picked up comrades that form the crew of his ship. They included Boult a dwarf, Verran - a lad that seems to possess sorcerer abilities, and Kitto - another lad, who was on the privateer with Harp. Kitto has become an accomplish lock pick.
The commission is to sail to Chult, find a lost colony and see if they can find out what happen to Liel. Easy enough, a quick sail down the coast, a short march inland, talk with the colonist or discovery what happen to then, back to the ship by dinner and a pleasant return trip back up the coast.
What I like about this book is nothing is as it seems. What we think we know about the characters, the reason for the trip and the jungle of Chult becomes unraveled as the story progresses. When the final mystery is revealed to us at the end, we have rebuilt the script of this story from beginning to end.
If you like heroes who are real people, puzzles where the pieces are given to you one piece at time, and overcoming obstacles from the jungle that closes behind you to adversaries and friends who are not what they seem, then you will like this book.

    more from this reviewer

    Amusingly Funny.

A book that mixes both past and present, mystery and comic - in thick, almost as thick as the jungle the book takes place in - showing a witty sense of humor on the author's part, Jenna Helland demonstrates a knack for basing a present situation based on a murky past in a way that keeps the reader guessing and surprising him at every turn, and intermixing past wounds and grief with dry humor that has the reader laughing till he busts a gut. Few books have indeed made me laugh as much. The ending in itself is nicely drawn as it leaves the final conclusion hanging in the air for the reader to grasp and shape - unless a suite is on its way to prolonge the story, which is more than possible and welcome (from my part at least). Good job in all.
