Children's LiteratureAs many of the books in "The World of NASCAR" series claim, NASCAR racing is full of excitement. For many non-racing fans, the idea of watching cars go around in circles is considered boring, but for many the challenges and intrigue of each race holds great exhilaration. This is especially true when great racers such as Dale Pearson and Richard Petty face off. Their race at the 1976 Daytona 500 is legend. Young readers will have to pick up this latest Gigliotti book to know what happened. Even today, races can come down to the last lap as with the 1999 Daytona 500 where the "Intimidator," Dale Earnhardt Sr., lost to Jeff Gordon. Jim Gigliotti has provided a great insight into the nail biter races in NASCAR history. With numerous photographs and colorful text, readers cannot help but be drawn into the excitement of the races. Included in the back of the book are a glossary and section for further reading. A timeline of the close NASCAR races is also included. This whole series is worthwhile for any school library nonfiction collection. 2004, Tradition Publishing Company, Ages 8 to 15.
