All Music Guide - Rolf Semprebon
Far Out, an early incarnation of the Far East Family Band, only released this one self-titled record in 1971. The group sounds very similar to Far East, with the strong Pink Floyd influences, though Far Out has less of the German cosmic sound and more Japanese folk influences. The album contains just two side-long tracks that contain many smaller sections, from long slow Asian exotic instrumentals with guitar and percussion to relaxed Floyd-like vocal sections similar to Far East. It all flows together quite nicely, and the blend of the progressive, psychedelic, and Japanese elements creates an interesting mesh that pushes this far beyond being some imitation Floyd.
