Overview

"I've started horses since I was 12 years old and have been bit, kicked, bucked off and run over. I've tried every physical means to contain my horse in an effort to keep from getting myself killed. I started to realize that things would come much easier for me once I learned why a horse does what he does. Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"Buck Brannaman is part of a lineage of skilled horsemen, and for the horses he works with, it is about trust and understanding, not submission."
--Robert Redford

"When it comes to horses, Buck Brannaman is part guru, part psychologist, and all cowboy. He's a 19th -entury man in a 21st-century world, and his life is at once inspirational and instructive."

    Worth the time to read.

If you're looking for a 'horse-training guide', this isn't it. But if you're looking for some guidance, this is amazing. Buck has an amazing insight into not only the horse, but people as well. You may not learn to break a horse, but you will learn to understand him a little better. The insight in invaluable both in horse and human relationships.

    There's not enough words......

This is a great book that everyone should read, unless you live in a cave. Buck is great teacher of horsemanship, but it's not just about horses...it's about life. Buck shares his life's lessons. You'll laugh and you'll cry. You may even want to come see him at a clinic. He's a very special person and a great helper of the horses. Enjoy!

If you're a horse person, you have to read this book! It's not exactly the same as the movie, it has some similar stories, but more added to them, and several that aren't in the movie. Very touching and interesting book. Use the Lend Me feature to share it with your friends!

I give Buck 5 stars on this. Buck writes just like he talks. It's just simple, to the point, with a little humour sprinkled throughout. Here's a guy who came from some humble and pretty rough conditions, He used those, not as an excuse but a reason, to make something of himself and then share that with the rest of us. His passion for what he does is obvious. It is an honest and very open account of the hardships and sacrifices he has made for 'The Faraway Horses'.

    Very good read!

If you liked the movie ,Buck, you will enjoy the book. It is basically the story of the book. You get more depth into his life's story ,and some great bits of wisdom. Not a book about how to train horses ,but a story about how training horses connects to how you live your life.

    Loved it

Wonderfully told, a "risen from the ashes" sort of tale. Amazing horseman, and an even bigger man.

    Horseman of the year

Buck is a guy i admire and look up to. I see myself like buck in many ways and methods . He is someone you could sitnext to for hours and talk and never get bored. Go watch the DVD "BUCK" and you will see a fraction of what this man is about.

    Wonderful!

Even if you don't know a thing about horses this book will help you just to learn how to deal with people. Buck is compassionate, wise and humorous. There's no one like him. Thank God for the horse's sakes and the lovers of horses he's around.

    BUY THE BOOK!!!

I was fortunate enough to get one of the first copies in WV, and read it cover to cover in one sitting (worth losing sleep to finish it!) This is not your average horse training book, its Buck's life history and how he relates his life with the horse. You will laugh and cry several times before you finish, but you will also meet an incredible human being who has spent a lifetime working to help the horse and the human find a better way.

    The REAL Horse whisperer.

Throughout the years there have been many arguments and claims to the title " Horse Whisperer". This man has truly earned it and is one of the pioneers in natural horsemanship. It would be awesome if everyone looked at horses in the same light as Buck.
