Children's Literature
Farley the sheep is happy in his meadow in the sunshine, but finds it frightening at night. When he spots Edna's cozy dog house, he simply moves in and falls contentedly to sleep. Poor Edna, no longer happy or content, cannot sleep at all. So the next day she tries to hide her house, but while she is having dinner, "Farley found it!" The day after, she tries another hiding place, but again, Farley enjoys sweet dreams while Edna fumes. No matter where she hides the dog house, Farley finds it and each time has appropriately different dreams. Edna finally figures out a solution. The dog house becomes the sheep house, while Edna builds her own. All seems well until some more sheep start eyeing her house, perhaps suggesting more trouble ahead. The real fun of the tale lies in the expressions and gestures of the two main characters, the dog and the sheep. Edna in particular carries on in almost operatic fashion, while her invader demonstrates a variety of sheep-y sleepy satisfaction. The settings are simple farmyard areas and include other appropriate animals. There is a lush, saturated quality to the digitally produced images which adds to the overall humor. 2006, Boyds Mills Press, Ages 4 to 8.

Kirkus Reviews
An insomniac sheep becomes a very unwelcome overnight guest in this good-natured tale of trespass. Farley loves being a sheep in the meadow during daylight, but his fear of the dark keeps him awake at night until he moves into Edna's cozy dog house where he immediately falls into a deep sleep. But Edna loves her house and doesn't appreciate Farley's uninvited sleepover. So, the next day, Edna moves her house to the cow pasture. Farley finds it and nods right off again. The resilient Edna proceeds to shift her house into the hayloft, under the hen house and up an oak tree. But every time, the wily Farley finds it and is deep in dreamland when Edna discovers him. At her wit's end, Edna finally takes a more constructive approach to provide house enough for both. Brightly colored digitally rendered illustrations contrast the slumbering Farley with the overwrought Edna in this farmyard foray. Fine bedtime fodder, especially for kids who fear the dark.
